Robert,,, much the same here, except we didn't seem to ever be "a little on the green side"
We had 3 days in a row at 36-37'C, and it went from green to past ideal swathing stage. 33-35'C the week before those 3 days, 33-35'C for the week after, and about the same this week, then it looks like it might get cooler here after that. But by then, I think she'll be too brittle to swath, even with dew on it(which we haven't had for a month)No body was going to swath in that heat, although I did plan to swath this year(even with planting a Dekalb straight cut variety 7565) Seeds are nice and black as standing usually are,,, but the seeds are clearly smaller, maybe 2/3rds the normal size. Defiantly affect bus. volume, we'll just have to see where bus weight ends up. Looks like we'll be doing it all straight, weeds mostly dyeing off, except for the odd kochia patch. We need 10-14 days at least before we can cut it strght, 20 days if it does turn cooler. I'm nervous as heck, as that a long time to go without a wind storm, and '65 ain't the best for tolerating wind, especially this year, the pods and stems seem very brittle.

No worries here about heat. Still waiting for some black seed to show up and the big worry will be frost. NE wind tonight should almost have a wind chill warning.

Like others have said i would let it get black seed close to the top and then swath at night. Gets tricky if you have lots of field to do and one break down has you way behind.

Lucky for me I paid up for the pod shatter varieties so I could swath it.

First time here with that trait, shocked at no shattering in seemly dry spots. Normal stuff has pods flying off the reel. Definitely only way to go.

                      So did you swath it?
I swathed all mine, was starting at 11pm and cutting through the night till 9 or 10am.
We just had a terrible wind go through an hour ago!!!
Alot of swathes blew around this afternoon!!!!!!.
I bet 30% of my higher ground that was burnt the worst blew around.
Yield was maybe gonna be around 20bpa with stand for 55+.
Very small seeds even in the big lower pods!!!
