I still consider 50 bu durum a very good crop.
Problem is guys shoot for the stars, put every nickel into it and it doesn’t rain then then complaining starts.
Wheat for example is growing all over the world, a crop taken off to very 90 days, there never really had been a short fall of it.
Today’s wheat prices a pathetic, and putting too much into a worthless “filler” crop to isn’t worth it. IMO
We can grow big crops if Mother Nature is a liittle nice to us. But “she” hammers us usually 3 out of 4 years.

Having decent crops last year and a better seeding tool this year, we took a chance and put 60bu/acre canola inputs and got screwed. Taking the Nexera out of the equation our Canola was close to 50 last year on 25% less inputs. Nexera was just over 20.

It always amazes how much weather conditions and the resulting cropS vary across western Canada, even in my small area there are large differences. I was talking to a well operator yesterday that lives 30 mins southeast of me. He hadn’t had rain in 2 weeks and was going to move cows last night because they were out of grass. I on the other hand have had a rain shower just about every night for the last week including last night, so we are not short of moisture and I am very thankful that my cows still have green grass to eat. I was pre harvesting some feed barley day before yesterday and was making ruts much of the time. My barley doesn’t appreciate the wet feet and looks less impressive than last year.

As for peas I would be very happy with a pea stand like Saskfarmer has in his pictures. Mine are flat but still green on top. 2 applications of fungicide didn’t protect it as well as I had hoped from disease, just too wet.

Wheat crops in my area do look very good but are still too green for pre harvest consideration.

Swathing of canola has begun in the last few days and the crops look good. It does amaze as I drive around how far over dekalb varieties lean and how much harder they appear to be to swath than other varieties. I also admit to being biased towards Invigor canola but my one field of brevant does look good.

Saskfarmer as always I enjoy your crop reports but looking at your pictures of your crops and your equipment you have much to be thankful for and sometimes you “doth protest too much, methinks.” Have a good week of harvest as we are still a couple of weeks away here.

If 50 bu of anything, even wheat, is not profitable anymore we have got to seriously take a look at where this industry is going.

Growing best crops for your area and conditions is always a goal but trying to eke out a bushel or two here or there with a lot of extra risk just to keep the parasites at bay is a not sustainable. We are going to end up like the US, buying all our seeds, paying $400 ac rents and growing 200bu (corn) yields and 1960s prices.

Crops here are 2/3 of last year. No Canola touched yet but close to finishing our durum. No Rain-No Grain.

Dekalb 7565, went nearly all black in 3 days of heat, seeds will not big or plump when dry. Yes big swath but combine will tell. Later canola hardly filling pods. Yes leaning east. Brett Young appears half leaning, half standing, very strange looking fields. Will be all cut today.

It helps out at road speeds to keep you on the road only time the hydraulic is used.

                  I’m just saying in 2020 having 49 isn’t a bumper.

Yes ours are all over the map from good to poor but it’s all about the rain and where it went. Yard is over 6 and where I am today is 2.2. Variable but a average. All day I listen to radio and it’s bumper bumper bumper.

Now Manitoba ag and a few others are starting to realize the extreme heat took yield.

                  Truth hurts.

Crops looking decent here. Only one thats all over the map is peas. Have heard from 9 bpa to 60 bpa.

Almost done all the early canola and all the peas. The 120’ swather will be out today on the wheat.

Demo’d a new combine. If service wasn’t the issue, it be in the yard. Its that good....

                      What brand of combine?
