See many many posts wind is one of you enemies, spraying harvest etc etc.

Here down under winds strong by coast and weaken inland but we still get strong wind.

But places sort of 350 kms plus from coast winds are not as savage. We are about 100.

But you guys are a zillion miles from the coast some of you?

So wind come from north do they?

Or from west coast?

I think it's the gradients between high and low pressure systems. Spring and fall seasonal changes seem worse to me.

Who is our in-house meteorologist? Explanation please.

Makes me wonder about the latitude we live on too.

Isn’t it mainly because of the Jet Stream? Seems to love us. Probably something with how the mountains direct it as well.

Seems the older I get the more sensitive I am to pressure systems. Used to only have my ears pop when driving on a big hill, and like there’s any of those around.

Our area is not windy generally. More bush, in our own climate zone. I can spray any one of my fields any day I wish because of treelines and natural borders. Drift doesn’t happen here. I never ever roll canola swaths, and never ever had them blow, even a little bit.

On the negative side, low wind means much higher humidity for us. Takes time to dry out relatively speaking. This year was somewhat windier here than usual...

But yeah, in the open prairie, it’s a windy place.

Ya the mountains seem to play a big roll. Most of our wind comes from the west and north west therefore most canola swathed east and west usually.
In summer we get the odd south wind bringing unwanted pests.

Landlords always swath NW-SE and don’t seem to have too much of a wreck when other fields do. They just swathed across the road today, guess we’ll see how it goes the next couple days!

Not many trees around here. Only thing to stop the wind are the wind turbines 😳

Don’t get me wrong we have dust storms as you have seen.

Today for instance coast is 60 kms winds we’ve got about 12.

Was unreal when family friend came here from Montana touched foot in the sea ,never had until here in oz.
