Lots of really ugly scattered canola swaths around here. Also some fields with a bit taller stubble holding the swath are not damaged too badly.
Standing canola is hardly bothered by this wind if you ask me. I was sitting and watching a field this afternoon in my pickup. Wind gusts were shaking my truck while I was parked but the standing canola just kinda sways slowly back and forth. No real violent movements when its all woven together.

Jay, watching from road doesn’t reflect reality in the field.

I’ve lost about 10 % of our pods which are sitting on the ground unshelled. It’s different now with these varieties, where In the past you could see the white pod shelling from a distance, now it’s pods sitting on the ground.

Had the wind move swaths bad in Oct of 15 the day before we were ready to combine. Two combines with 14 foot pickup headers covering every foot of that field moving forward and backward constantly on the feederhouse reverser so can really feel for anybody that has to deal with that

Definitely could be dropped pods. I haven't inspected that close yet. In past years I have noticed fields that were preharvest sprayed with roundup/heat had more dropped pods then fields that we let ripen naturally.

When checking the stubble combined before yesterday there were pods on the ground. So yes, wind will knock some loose. East/west swathed fields here are a disaster.

We have to pay another 5 bucks a pound or so for seed that keeps its in fallen pods on. Lmao!!!

That seems to be the case after what I have seen in the area the past 4-5 years as well
