Let’s see some relevant solar panel data from between 50 - 60 deg northern latitudes.
Not data from mid latitude Southern Hemisphere. Solar data from Australia is meaningless here other than useless discussions.
This is how some of you view science ? Cherry picking data is not relevant... sorry .

Solar potential.
The yellow is 1200kwh/kw/year. The Red is 1400kwh/kw/yr

As you can see the southern prairies are the best place in Canada for solar. A relatively dry sunny climate.

So if you are using coal or natural gas fired generation and your panels are providing those kwh from solar instead of burning fossil fuels and emitting pollution and CO2 how is this not a good thing?

Once the equipment is paid for, the clean "fuel" is free and unlimited and will go to work. Shop roofs are plentifull on most farms. Ground mounts are better because you can easily clean them of snow.

Yes you still need backup or storage. Paired with wind and or hydro and/or natural gas you have reduced carbon emissions significantly.

Saskpower and the Saskparty are on board along with many farms across the prairies.

Not saying it’s a bad thing at all , but comparing Australia solar to Canada is meaningless , they don’t have 5 months of winter

I believe California is 1900 and areas of Australia over 2000 Chuck. Also remember there are parts of Canada that are around 900. Good for creating jobs in China!

Canadian Solar and Samsung built panels in Ontario did they not. My installer was a Saskatchewan electrician and company! Canadian jobs my friend!

Are you on crack? A total of 350K people live in that red solar zone in the southern prairies. The yellow and orange zone is uneconomical as everyone knows including the guys who farm in those regions desperate for GDD. How the f are we going to get that power to Toronto or vancouver. LOL

So use solar where it makes sense to use solar until cell efficiency increases, or just generate 900 and call it good enough like Fort Chip because you are still way ahead of diesel generators. Supplement the grid. Also consider where the majority of the power is used and the majority of the population in Western Canada lives is greater then 1200.

Certainly 2 ways to look at this, emotional old grumpy white guy approach, or a solid business approach.

Plus there are these things called wires that can send power to less efficient areas.

What is the solar output for 90% of that northern “good” region from October to April ? Just curious is all

It is the best place if you solely look at that map , but let’s see year around numbers . How’s the solar panel performance in relative locations in winter months like Norway , Sweden, Russia ?
Those are realistic numbers to look at , not Australia.
Like getting corn yield numbers from the corn belt in the US and comparing them to corn yields here ..... meaningless

chuck needs to get his maps straight, not the ones coming from solar companies and lobbying groups.

80% of Canadas populations lives further away than 1000 miles from our moderate solar zone.

We are making electric vehicles where the sun doesnt even shine. Now you see why Ford will be in Texas in a few yrs.
