Agronomy, [ag]tech, and business sure... But not all this political bullshit and personal attacks.

I haven't been here in a year. Coming back, well...That's 20 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
I liked seeing your post the other day.

It was like a surprise in a Christmas stocking!

Anyway, I’ve got cows to talk about. Time to go cherry pick some other threads to read.

Malle, We can set up a Politics forum to keep those discussion separate. But users will have to use it and keep the politic threads out of commodity forum.

Also, the personal attacks have to stop. These threads go sideways quick.
There's a user block feature or users can choose not to reply to someone.

An Australian complaining there is to much political discussion on a farmer chat line that originates in Canada.

Now that that's out of the way, the world can concentrate on solving World Peace, the Covid Vaccine, World Hunger, and most importantly Canadian farmers receiving a fair price for their commodities.

I can sleep well to night!!!

Thank you. But I think some threads will degrade into political crap anyway.

Back in the day as in like pre covid which seems like a very long time, when neighbors could chat in person over a coffee. What would we all discuss? There’s no way we d sit and spend our whole conversation about why canola is not higher every day we met. This is no different I think the variety and the personality behind the posts of each poster is what brings so many contributors to the site. Look at the other headings number of posts? If you spread it out no one is going to take the time even though maybe in theory we all should to flip through every topic and reply. If someone doesn’t know that politics whether it’s our own or in the USA or in Europe where ever we do trade with or compete with for markets is not an important issue then you’re actually missing a great deal of what is part of our actual lives in commodity marketing and everyday other things that effect our farms.

As far as personal attacks well our livelihoods are personal and rhe things that affect all of us are personal. The odd jab back and forth hopefully thrown in with a bit of humour sarcasm again makes things interesting, if you come in here and call someone a derogatory word each day and contribute nothing much more then yes give a warning or outright ban that person. But otherwise the thing that keeps people here in the commodity thread is that it’s real not just facts it’s personal. Jmo

You have it right wheel, most of this banter is in good jest, sometimes it veers off the rails but thats rare.

I am with you about the conversations though. Any farmer I talk to spends about 5 minutes on the crops, the next 5 on the weather and then the rest goes off into politics or pseudo politics. Which it should because politics of the day is a far more serious threat to our business than low wheat weights.

Most people have their agronomy pretty much down. There isnt much new under the sun there. A few are trying the odd snake oil, some chasing varieties but most know what works and dont veer too far. large experiments can be costly. Mostly tinkering at the edges now.

Most commodities are range bound and have been for yrs but the economics stuff is always interesting because it gives you some forewarning whats coming down the line.

I disagree with klauses song that we are all in the same boat. There is a group of people in this country (not on this forum) that are actively paddling the other way and some trying to tip the boat right over.

I’m confused, when a certain someone keeps calling agriville sillyville, is that a personal attack, an attack on the whole agriville community or I’ll bet it just a a bad case of Tourette syndrome....

I mostly agree with your post. Nothing has really changed. Farmers are swimming against the current. The cheap food policy is in effect and every year there are fewer of us. This site provides a bit of diversion from everyday crap.

If people don't like it, why do they keep coming back?

Some left(non political word) not to return.

                    Some stuff gets real old....

If we make changes to agriville, one problem I see is that few visit the other forums. I have had machinery questions before, but I don’t ask them here because if I throw a question in the machinery forum, it probably won’t be seen for seventeen years.

If mallee and I never talked sheep in the commodity forum, those conversations would never happen, because no one frequents the sheep forum.

I dunno. I get the point. I’m good with the way it is. I am slow to change. I still steer my machinery after all, don’t know what DEF is, and push my augers around by hand. lol
