Irrigation infrastructure announcement for Alberta
Some numbers 245 m from Province, 163m from the irrigation districts the final 407.5 million in the form of a 35 year term loan at 1% interest through the Canada infrastructure bank.
Based on what I heard from the video link I listened to it sounds like the Farmers and the province are the ones really putting up the bulk of the cash as the fed portion is mostly a loan,Last edited by mcfarms; Oct 9, 2020, 22:15.

I dont understand the kick about irrigation lately....
The gains in production have come on dryland farms in the last 40 years
If you are worried about a drought and heat ...you cant really put enough water on a crop to improve yields by barely enough to cover the costs ...
If the irrigation is a money maker why cant those farmers fund it themselves....
Dryland farmers fund their own farms and machinery
Majority of irrigation in Saskatchewan grows dryland crops....wheat durum lentils canola flax...
The percentage grown for vegetables is very small...
Districts in Saskatchewan are still subsidized 40 bucks an acre
There was announcements to the same effect in Alberta a while back as well
So governments will always be funding it...
When do farm groups that represent all farmers and ranchers get the same funding????
The funding the Saskparty announced for irrigation is a mind numbing 8000 per irrigated acre
Or just about 1.1 million per quarter just to get the water to the quarter line...

If water was as valuable as some have said they would be building reservoirs. ....not finding ways to drain them...then charging thor that want to irrigate the right amount...
Did you know....pump house at Riverhurst supplies raw water to both the irrigator and the village...
But there is a different charge to both.
