Covid cases in Saskatchewan vs North Dakota

North Dakota recorded 24 covid deaths in a single day on Wednesday Oct 7th. Saskatchewan's total deaths from many months of covid are 24! In North Dakota, 304 people in total have died from covid since March. 116 have died in September alone.

On Wednesday Oct 7th there were 495 new covid cases in North Dakota compared to 34 new cases in Saskatchewan on Oct 10th.

The total active number of cases in North Dakota was 3706 cases on October 7th compared to 161 active cases in Saskatchewan on October 10th.

The total number of cases in Saskatchewan since the pandemic started is 2068. North Dakota has had close to 20,000 covid cases since the beginning.

There are about 760,000 residents in North Dakota vs 1,182,000 in Saskatchewan.

As of Oct 7th there was only 25 ICU beds available and 218 standard beds available in the whole state!

According to reports from Adam Willis of the Fargo Forum, Bismarck, Dickinson and Minot are managing heavy patient volumes. There were only 3 ICU beds available in Bismarck, 1 in Dickinson, and 2 in Minot! All three cities have reported a shortage of regular beds.

The virus was in NA back in Nov 2019, there was and is no stopping it.

There may be some specific reasons why ND has performed so poorly compared to Saskatchewan. But the predominant reasons will have to do with how the state health system managed the the lockdowns and measures put into place to reduce the spread. This is not a densely populated region with large cities. Similar to Saskatchewan in many ways.

Over 10 times the number of Cases and deaths with less than 3/4 of the Saskatchewan population! Jazz will no doubt tell us it is a success story thanks to his hero Trump. LOL

What really matters is the number of total deaths as a percentage of the population when this has passed.
Just because it spreads through the population more quickly only means they can get back to more normal sooner. ( Providing the health care system is not overloaded!)
