In case you missed this from page 1.
Turns out Germany is too poor to afford coal power too. So poor they need to import wood from Africa to replace the coal:

    And Britain:

AB setting the stage to go it alone.

If china can build 100 of them, I am sure 1 here is going to be ok.

But I thought they were all nearly self sufficient on solar and wind , no ??

So pelletizing wood in Canada and shipping by boat over to Japan to burn to create electricity seems just ridiculous!
I'm afraid that I can't suspend reality long enough to even try to explain the justification behind it. Hopefully Chuck can chime in. He explained it to me before, makes perfect sense to him. After all, if governments do something, or mandate something, it automatically must be viable according to his logic.

A billion trees a year is only 2.7 million trees a day that’s if you’re planting trees all winter also.

So if you spend 500 billion dollars in a couple of months is that more than that per day???

                    O who cares!

Never had the money in the first place.

The budget will balance itself !

I cancelled your 40, and a few thousand more every year. But since trees don't release CO2 when burned*, it doesn't matter how many I pile and burn.

What amazes me with a quick bit of googling it is easy to find articles pointing out how ridiculous this practice of converting coal burning electrical plants to wood pellets really is. It produces more C02 than coal, one of the reasons relates back to what caseih points out, wood pellets are less energy dense than coal. The environmental movement never ceases to amaze me and not in a good way.
