WINNIPEG -- The rising number of COVID-19 cases in Manitoba has resulted in less space in intensive care units, and changes are coming to hospitals as part of the new code red restrictions.

Lanette Siragusa, the chief nursing officer with Shared Health, announced Friday that ICU capacity in Winnipeg was at 96 per cent as of Friday, up from 92 per cent on Wednesday.

Of the 71 beds, 68 beds were in use, with 19 occupied by COVID-19 patients.

WINNIPEG -- Two Winnipeg hospitals that have reported outbreaks of COVID-19 say the number of cases in their facilities has grown.

On Thursday, the St. Boniface Hospital and Victoria General Hospital announced more staff and patients have tested positive for COVID-19.

St. Boniface Hospital is reporting 25 patients have tested positive, an increase of two since their last update. One additional staff member at the hospital has tested positive, bringing the total to 11.

At Victoria General Hospital, 49 cases are associated with the outbreak. The hospital says 28 patients and 21 staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.

Between the two facilities, four deaths have been reported. Three deaths occurred at St. Boniface hospital, while one patient at Victoria who was transferred to St. Boniface has died.

The outbreak at St. Boniface Hospital includes the patient care units of B5, E5, and E6, while Victoria Hospital’s outbreak affects the 5N and 5S family medicine units.

Both hospitals have restricted in-person visits to the hospital in an attempt to help prevent additional cases, and have implemented enhanced cleaning and disinfection of surfaces. Staff is also being reminded about the importance of personal protective equipment.

You never seem to worry about the subject or content of other peoples posts? There are lots of non farming posts by you and many other posters.

As far as I know, posters get to choose what they want to post and respond too.

I think you want believe that a looming shortage of hospital beds because of covid is not going to be a problem? Time to change the subject! LOL

You and I both know that is not the problem.

You are pissed because you don't like my opinions or what I have to say. Fine.

If I said things that you agreed with you would never bring up my lack of posts about ag ever!

So bugger off and mind your own posts.

The thread is about the looming shortage of healthcare beds in Winnipeg because of covid. If you have nothing to say about that then that's fine. Move on.

Just mystified why you dont take all your drivel to a political forum ??
Also cant figure why you never have a question about a piece of farm machinery or a seed variety , etc., etc. Have you any opinions on the three marketing questions i asked this morning on this marketing forum ?
For the record , i wish trump and trudeau would go away and never be heard from again
                    You can block me tho?

So Agriville is a strictly an ag forum with no politics? Okay if you say so! Where you going to take your political “drivel”?

Likely because if he actually is involved with a farm he does none of the actual grunt work , the other family member or members pull all the weight while he sits in the basement working on finding articles to cut and paste and planning his next Social Justice crusade.

Some perspective pre-covid. ICU capacity in Manitoba is a problem in the best of times.

From the linked article September 2019: "The remaining ICUs are struggling with capacity and staffing," MNU president Darlene Jackson said in a statement.

So if Manitoba has been short of ICU beds before Covid why would Brian Pallister not fix this problem heading into the second wave when it becomes a critical issue?

Instead they have been cutting health care in Winnipeg.

Is this an example of a Conservative government who puts a priority on tax cuts over providing good healthcare?

Perhaps Brian should spend less time in Costa Rica at his holiday home and more time working on Manitoba issues?

Docs have said once MB hits 200 cases per day, hospital resources are overwhelmed in a week or two after that. Wasn't it like 400 and some?

I don't know caseih, but if I were a Manitoban, I would be very concerned. It's not like all the other medical emergencies stop that need critical beds as well.

Yes politics don't belong on discussion, but OMG this is quite serious. If something goes wrong with PPE and medical staff reducing their numbers as well - or even the normal reduction of medical staff by getting covid and looking at facility numbers, bed space without covid etc, it is looking like the perfect storm.

Please be extra careful no matter where you live and please take the pandemic seriously, but hold on to your butts in MB with positivity at 9% and rising. She's gonna be bumpy.
