Here we vote for an MP, and whichever party gets more MPs into the house, gets to lead. We don’t even really get a say about Senators.
There you vote for a whole list of people.
Who you want in Congress.
Who you want in Senate (if your senators term is up)
Who you want as president.
Conceivably you can like your Congressman and not like your presidential candidate. Which could be what we’re seeing here. Normally people vote for party’s but we know that there are Republicans that aren’t happy with Trump. Why wouldn’t they vote for their Republican Congressman and Senator but not for him? It can mean the party still has clout in Congress, but they don’t have to deal with Trump anymore.
And similar to a minority government here, it’s not like Biden can get in and roll out whatever the hell he wants when half the Congress and most of the Senate are Republicans.
Many of the people have voted to be represented by State Republicans. They just don’t want the nominated Republican presidential candidate to be president.
