The US bought 100 million doses of Pfizer's vaccine, if and when one is developed, and will use the US milatary to distribute it. The US does not pay anything to Pfizer until the vaccine is delivered. That is all they have contributed to Pfizer. Following is an excerpt from Pfizer newrelease:

....But Pfizer hasn't received any support from the US government beyond a US$1.95 billion agreement to buy an initial 100 million doses. No money is paid out until the vaccine is approved.

Canada has also pre-purchased 20 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine, just like the US did. And since that amount would treat twice as many Canadians compared the the amount the US purchased for the US population, maybe it should be called the Trudeau vaccine rather that the Trump/Pense vaccine.
