Yeah, I agree, but I think that is not only because of our medics, it's also because we have the best equipment. I mean, a hospital is not only a place where you can find a therapist and tell him that you feel sick. It’s a place where a lot of stuff is installed, a lot of very expensive stuff. In order to maintain it working, you have to spend a lot of money. If you want to know more about it, go here https://www.biomedics.com.au/resources/medical-equipment-testing-maintenance-guide/ medical equipment testing . So, I think you understand now why our medical system is good but so expensive. Everything involved in your health care costs a lot of money!Last edited by JoeVance; Jul 5, 2021, 10:40.

Friend just got out of hospital. She started feeling rotten months ago but never thought much of it. The rotten progressed to fever, nausea, no appetite. She finally went to Dr and tests spelled out infection. CT that night screamed a ball of something wrapped in large intestine. The intestine swelled shut and amplified the discomfort. Laproscopic radiologists went in and drained an abcess on the large intestine of about 2 tablespoons of pus. Then Big-gun IV antibiotics for 8 days and home with oral antibiotics on a trial basis. Yes SF, one can crash pretty fast and our medical care is top-notch. Great medics, laproscopic radiology and antibiotic concoctions put up a dandy front against bacterial infection, peritonitis and sepsis. Apparently we ingest and harbour bacteria and parasites that may like to just hang around in our bodies waiting for conditions to be right for procreation. Moral of the story: When you don’t feel well, get to your doctor. Those little tests they do tell them a lot about what is going on in your body.

6 1/4 years ago, I could barely walk the 400' from the workshop door to the back door of our house without my legs going completely numb - spinal stenosis.
Had to sit down outside the back door to allow the nerves to decompress enough to go up the 2 steps into the garage.
Doc got me to see the best spine surgeon in Canada right here in London Health Sciences Center. Dr. Kevin Gurr pioneered many spine surgery techniques and invented the replacement disc.
He is the very best, bar none.
Anyway, he got me in ASAP, did a decompression, removing the ruptured disc and part of one deteriorated vertebrae. Also fused two badly-worn verts which were increasingly dis-positioning rather badly.
Back out 48 hours post-surgery, I had ~99% recovery with zero lingering symptoms, other than some permanent loss of flexibility, due to the fusing.
The cost to me for this life-giving system was the price of the parking garage fees - 30 bucks?
I have immense gratitude for our medical system.
But then about 1 year later, my sister-in-law got really bad kidney stones. Ended up in local hospital for pain and fever, all with 24 hrs of onset.
Got transferred by ambulance to the bigger hospital an hour away. Doctor ordered some further tests as her condition worsened.
She was then sent to the same hospital network that fixed my back.
Went into sepsis and died within 3 days of the initial obstruction. not yet 60 years old and a beautiful picture of health up until that day...what a devastating blow.
Turns out that the further tests ordered by the doc were never done. Whether that would have made a difference in the outcome - we will never know.
The cost to her for our system was her life.
Bottom line - having the best of the best means a lot.
But we are all mortal and things can still go wrong.
Always be grateful; every day is a gift.Last edited by burnt; Jul 2, 2021, 11:40.

The wife is having issues , needs to go to our local small town hospital every evening for intervinus while they try to figure out what is causing her high wbc. Last night after we arrived and just started the drip a call came that a man was laying in ditch at the highway only partly dressed. When the ambulance and police arrived shortly it turned out a drug overdose. Seven nurses and doctors spent over 90 minutes working on him to try to get him to respond, they then called stars to come and get him.He had no id only weed and crytal meth in his pocket. Police said they have had a few of these where they get stoned in the city then od and their so called friends take them out to the country and drop them off so the police dont show up at their place. All the while ourselves plus others sat waiting, we eventually were told to go home and come back later. You could see the fustration in the police who had to stay in case he came to and was violent as they said that usually is how they are. Meanwhile other calls were coming in that he could not leave to attend.Happens over and over again every night.Sad

We should be investing more in prevention, harm reduction and addictions treatment to keep people out of the emergency healthcare system.
Substance abuse of all types including alcohol and tobacco and nicotine are a terrible drain on society. Its a healthcare issue more than a criminal justice issue.
Putting addicts in jail only makes it worse. Put the dealers in jail.

Originally posted by jwabDefinitely sad that addicts take precedence. These people gave up their right to Medicare when they started taking drugs, and don’t pull the it’s not their fault card.
Top notch if you can get in, doctor says up to a year wait for an MRI, pay and your seen within a few days.
Back problems, the specialist can see you in 18-24 months for just the first evaluation, pay and your procedure is within a few months.
This system needs a lot of work don’t kid yourself.
PS Anyone who thinks it’s the dealers causing issues just can’t see the big picture.
