    Praise be to Farmaholic

Farmaholic, I am not sure if you intended to teach what you did with your Monday morning thread posts or if it was accidental, but I want to thank you for these points your posts demonstrated so well.
    1. Few on this forum actually want to discuss commodity marketing. Of all the commodity threads started by Farma, most received only single digit responses. And most of the responses on the threads veered off to production comments rather than marketing. The only exception to this observation was the canola thread.
    2. IMHO If posts were strictly restricted to commodity marketing posts this site would become unused like most of the other forums. Nearly every one of the treads Farm started only lasted Monday and then died.
    3. This is already a general agricultural site! Posters calling for restricting posts on this forum to marketing and creating a new general farm site should realize this is already the general agricultural forum posing as a commodity marketing site.
    4. It is not “left wingers” who are straying from marketing. In the last 2 days there has only been a few threads started on actual marketing information, the majority are back to the same politics/covid/bashing. And of those new threads, none were started by the people most despised on this site. In fact Burnt started 3 new politics threads in last two days, Saskfarmer started a politics thread, The one marketing thread that Burnt tried to start was derailed in the very first response NOT BY A LEFT WINGER, but by AF5 comparing posters on he to hogs!
    5. This forum is a mirror of the CWB/BLM/Western Separatist/Trump debates. Lots of complaints about issues but no solutions offered. It is easy to tear things down, but no vision of what the future will look like after the fact.
    6. Looking at the numbers of view on each thread we see it is not the true marketing threads that draw view. It is the things people are talking about in coffee shops (or were before they closed) It is covid, it is politics, it is US elections. Sure it is great to get commodity marketing news but that is not the main topic of discussion in everyday conversations.
    7. People are not drawn to the passing of a train, they are drawn to the train wrecks. They want to see blood. They enjoy seeing chuck et al bashed. They go to hockey games as much to see the hits and fights and even goals; rather than the skating passing and skills.
    8. Administrators are aware of these points and what is driving traffic and there is no way they are going to kill the golden goose that drives traffic/ads to this forum and the sooner people on this site accept reality that public forums are not their private chat rooms the sooner we might address real problems like civility and divisiveness
IMHO, this forum is like an old cowboy bar that has suddenly become cool for a new crowd and the old cowboys don’t like it. They especially don’t like having to defend their biases. And what is really infuriating them is there is little they can do about it. Some try to pretend the new crowd is not there by turning their backs to them (blocking). Others try insults like comparing them to hogs as AF5 did today. Some try fighting them but as often as not end up bloodied themselves and what is worse than having your ego bruised by some “socialist” And some threaten to leave, and do so but quickly come back because that is where their lives and views are defined by others of the same mindset as we seen happen over just 2 days!
All I can say what a fascinating experiment you tried on Monday Farma and if social scientists discover your work it will be fodder for discussion of human psychology for years.

Yup, I'm with you on that dml.

For further example, just look at the thread I started about "Hogs"

    6 (meant 'comments") and a measly 185 +/- views.

And it immediately turns to real life applications - how ignorant!!!!

And some other jerk makes a smart-ass comment about how to carve a hog, as if it's all about his own gratification.

    How insensitive.

                I have a solution,
Rename from marketing to coffee shop, General, rural roads, the Getto,

It is what it is. I try not to be negative( so depressing that road is), I’m guilty of the one off comments or statements with out a lot of solutions and don’t often make new posts.

Ok here is my 2 cents.

If you want call it what ever it is all connected to marketing the USA shits and prices down here is a example

Air canada bought last week at 18.79 low point with a covid vaccine guess what it’s up will it go to 80 who knows was it a good buy who knows.
                    Today 21.50.

It’s about reading and learning and doing other shit and farming.

It’s all about learning we need left idiots and right idiots to make the world go round because if we were all socialists the men would drink and do nothing why work when you get the same as the idiot working.

Socialism doesn’t work new or old.

Again it’s all a big learning curb, read think and do as you want.

                    Call it safety meeting.

I’m getting out today thank God.

Dml just took a quick look through “The great reset thread”. Yes lots of politician bashing but you complain that no one offers solutions. I don’t see anybody from the left of center defending or giving their vision of the great reset. Chuck and Tweety dropped in to throw a few insults, that was it. Guilty on both side as far as I can see!

                        Disagree.

Much of traffic on political comments is by same people continually looking and same few comment.

I still vote for change the site will not die because of more marketing threads and less non farming stuff.

Sorry I’ve gotta be odd one out.

If front bar all encompassing forum was created traffic through agriville in total would change one iota probably increase.

Front bar would be most popular but commodity would still be used and viewed.

I like and value the marketing components, reality is there are likely only a handful of relevant marketing points to be made each week, maybe none some weeks. For those that want it to be strictly marketing I ask; would you really bother coming to look on a daily basis if there were only a handful of posts each week? I would not. What's wrong with a gathering place for people of similar interests that can share ideas and perspectives, or talk through problem situations. Politics does have a role in marketing and our daily roles as agricultural people and is ok to be included..... to a point. Does get a bit tiring hearing the same agenda over and over. I do choose not to read some threads as I am not interested and that ok. I hope posts continue from a variety of ag topics and a variety of posters. Does take someone with initiative to start something, farmaholic does try and the regular contributions like SF3's crop report help to keep activity up.

Variety from Malleefarmer vs Erroll vs Hobbyfarmer vs Woodland vs Blaithin makes it interesting. If it were just Jazz and Chuck (like 2 peas in a pod) it would be kinda boring.

To everyone: keep the posts rolling.

I never blamed one side of the other. I agree both sides are to blame. My point is posters are so busy pointing fingers and name calling they will not even think of compromise or potential solutions that would benefit everyone.

You point to "the great reset" as an example of the left not defending something. The great reset is a vague term thrown out to trigger an emotional response. I have yet to see a detailed description of what this is and how it is to be implemented by supporters of the plan (who ever they are). All I have seen is opinions by those opposed to it as to what it is

Is the great reset even a socialist or communist plot as it is portrayed on here? Or is it in fact the opposite. If the great reset is a product of the World Economic Forum/Davos, you have to consider that at the last gathering there were 119 billionaires, 50+ world leaders primarily from first world nations, and the majority of attendees were corporate leaders. This seems like a strange mix for a socialist gathering especially given the distain billionaires/corporations/corporate elite in left wing politics. Or is the great reset actually based in capitalism and it is a strategy by the powerful to earn even more of the world economy?

You want solutions? Here are a couple. I, for the most part, no longer post here on climate change even though I believe man is impacting climate. I do not like the carbon tax any more than anyone else on here but I know farmers will never have the power to end the tax. What I have always advocated for on this forum is that instead of fighting the tax farmers should be seeking to receive tax credits for the work we done in sequestering carbon. But that message will never be heard as long as the political voice of farmers continue to simply complain about the tax and many farmers deny man made climate change.

You want another one? Here is a big one. No question Trudeau is hated in western Canada. But the fact is no western Canadian votes for him in federal election. The only people who can vote for Trudeau reside in the Papineau riding of Quebec. Yet all Canadians can vote for who is the leader of the Liberal party. All you have to do is be a member of the federal Liberal party. In other words a majority of the 300,000 people who are Liberal party members decided Trudeau would be the PM if a majority of Liberals MP were elected. Consider if the 190,000+ farmers all hate Trudeau decided to all become Liberal party members they likely could have selected a different leader than Trudeau. Not only that but could have had a huge voice in determining Liberal policy; especially about ag. But it is human nature to complain about something and blame someone else before taking up the reins and actually doing something about it.

The thing I noticed was that chuck2, dml , tweety and the rest didn't add to any of these threads.

So keep up the good work. All we have to do is not engage them and keep posting about ag related issues and they will lose interest and move on.
