This has touched us personally since my son's girlfriend is a nurse in Steinbach. She is afraid to go to work but she has to.

Its time for healthcare workers to step up. The story from the beginning was that we were going to "flatten the curve" so that healthcare could keep up. Not "stop the bug in its tracks". Not "stay home 100% of the time so nobody ever gets sick". FLATTEN THE CURVE. That implies that the curve still exists and people will still get sick.

Given that we never had massive excess capacity in healthcare that means that Drs and nurses are going to get real busy. Welcome to how the rest of us live our entire lives. I'm sorry but I have zero sympathy. Hospitals were empty last spring. That's total BS and I'm happy to hear they're busy now. If we're going to ever get through this then healthcare is going to be real busy for the next 8 months. REALLY REALLY busy.

Then why aren’t there serious outbreaks in other Mennonite communities?

Here the issue is the hockey players, not the Mennonites.

I think the issue is people being self entitled d bags, has little to do with their religion or politics and more to do with their ethos.

Well that’s what exactly the problem the misconception that masks have been worn and people are doing stupid things. It’s not difficult for tell who’s been doing what even amongst the posters of this site ridiculing masks and the virus itself then when the facts are presented oh gee ya I wear a mask. Well wth are you being an inconsiderate ass for if your doing all these things.
The masks won’t stop it 100% either but will slow it down. If you’ve got an area that’s wearing masks and abs a problem it would have been several times worse without them.

What Steinbach does have is a very large population of " Christian" based Mennonites, and therefore lots and lots of churches.

So you are saying costco, walmart superstore are all ok but churches bad? There are more people in superstore at a time than our local church.

Is it only Christian faith thats the problem because last time I check there are a couple other religions around. Should I tell the folks at the local mosque about your observation.

Danish study....

Yesterday marked the publication of a long-delayed trial in Denmark which hopes to answer that very question. The ‘Danmask-19 trial’ was conducted in the spring with over 3,000 participants, when the public were not being told to wear masks but other public health measures were in place. Unlike other studies looking at masks, the Danmask study was a randomized controlled trial – making it the highest quality scientific evidence.
Around half of those in the trial received 50 disposable surgical face masks, which they were told to change after eight hours of use. After one month, the trial participants were tested using both PCR, antibody and lateral flow tests and compared with the trial participants who did not wear a mask.

In the end, there was no statistically significant difference between those who wore masks and those who did not when it came to being infected by Covid-19. 1.8 per cent of those wearing masks caught Covid, compared to 2.1 per cent of the control group. As a result, it seems that any effect masks have on preventing the spread of the disease in the community is small.
Some people, of course, did not wear their masks properly. Only 46 per cent of those wearing masks in the trial said they had completely adhered to the rules. But even if you only look at people who wore masks ‘exactly as instructed’, this did not make any difference to the results: 2 per cent of this group were also infected.

When it comes to masks, it appears there is still little good evidence they prevent the spread of airborne diseases. The results of the Danmask-19 trial mirror other reviews into influenza-like illnesses. Nine other trials looking at the efficacy of masks (two looking at healthcare workers and seven at community transmission) have found that masks make little or no difference to whether you get influenza or not.

But overall, there is a troubling lack of robust evidence on face masks and Covid-19. There have only been three community trials during the current pandemic comparing the use of masks with various alternatives – one in Guinea-Bissau, one in India and this latest trial in Denmark. The low number of studies into the effect different interventions have on the spread of Covid-19 – a subject of global importance – suggests there is a total lack of interest from governments in pursuing evidence-based medicine. And this starkly contrasts with the huge sums they have spent on ‘boutique relations’ consultants advising.

I don’t know about other people on here but it’s come awful close to home a couple times here. Neighbour had it, people seen just prior at work have got it, this week is a local hockey team that’s in the middle of testing. So far 9 out of 12 tested are positive.

Generally I don’t wear a mask unless I’m in somewhere fairly populated but when you know you were within a day of being right beside someone positive.... it does make one think.

In the city you assume you’re at a higher risk because of population density. In the country it seems to be a matter of thinking that you trust people because you know them, which really has nothing to do with it so it can be hard to wrap a mind around.

Being part of a small community of people you trust doesn’t protect anyone in this scenario.

My wife's niece is also a nurse in Med Hat and tested positive for covid last summer. The symptom she had was no ability to taste and got tested. Anyways affect was very mild and I did meet her last month after she was recovered and back to work for month already and she did not display any ill effects. So if that terrifies you than maybe health care is not for you. Health care workers are always screaming hysterics for political gain. Can get a job elsewhere if it is that bad. Was a couple of kids at my son's school that got it and his class was online for a while. They recovered as well and so far school is back in session. Hopefully there was no outpouring of hate because a couple of kids caught the forbidden communist flu. You can share this info with snowflakes in the family. Another problem was hospitals were empty in late spring and summer due to cancelled elective surgery and there was an attempt to catch up in late summer and fall. Everybody knew there was going to be a flareup at this time because related conditions do that. For women, masking is just burka training. Hope they are aware of that.

The outbreak in Steinbach is blamed on arseholes from Winnipeg that went out to Steinbach to shop and go to movies when Wpg moved into code red lockdown.

The anti mask rally in Steinbach was organized by the Church of God Restoration. They are reported as a cult like bunch looking to recruit members and using the anti mask/ personal rights hook. Pathetic.

Point is don't blame the Mennonites. BTW, Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach is overwhelmed. For real.

And staffed 100 new hospitals how? Trump university grads or Jazz school of medicine. 4 years to train an RN and 8 for a doctor. Do you think the Covid will agree to wait that long before infecting any more people? Cause it sure didn't listen to you when you said repeatedly this summer there would be no more deaths in US and that it would go away after the election!
