I drop out of Agstab and Agnivest, eight years ago when I incorporated. The less paper work I have to do, or the less my account bill is, or the less the government has their hands in my business, the better. I make sure I have a good balance sheet in place in case I have a bad year or two.

You put it out there, you have a choice to do something about it. Drop out, or get involved with one of the farm groups and try to get changes made to Agstab.

      A few points.

      They gutted it

      It was much better before

      It is pathetic now

No one is going to admit they did get cash from it

I’ve been out since before they gutted it

If you’re in crop insurance, there is no way to trigger almost, so why be in it?

If you’re diversified, not much point either

It certainly doesn’t work if you have had a multi year run of disasters as we had here in the wet

It may work if you have had a five year string of good crops followed by a one year wipeout

      Enhance crop insurance, scrap it

      In Canada we are screwed.

We need to stop daydreaming that the government is going to do something useful

We need to do something useful ourselves

Self insurance looks like it’s the only way, ie being prudent

We are such a small minority now, we don’t need to be heard, our votes are small

You are kidding yourselves if you think we will be heard

Keep trying i guess, if you think we will be heard, but we won’t be

Put that energy into changing or morphing your farms in some way to make them more stable

It sucks, but it is what it is

There is the factor of being in both AgStab and Crap insurance at the same time. I seriously doubt they will "pay you twice".
SF3, maybe your crop Insurance covered the loss and they wanted the AgStab gift back....lol.

Since I'm only in one that won't happen to me. I'm not even sure if they withhold a portion of a AgStab payment if I'm not in Crap Insurance......I've never had the "pleasure" of finding out. I thought they were hoping to run them as companion programs......but it sure wouldn't be "double" insuring.

Have a friend who has 26 cows and grows a bit of hay for them, one time was a farmer, now just playing around. He tells me the other day he just got $9000 from ag stab for 2019, this is the 3rd time he has got a substantial payment and wasnt sure why. Due to the wet summer in 2019 he silage baled his hay instead of baling dry, so they paid him out on his inventory stating silage is worth less than hay. He questioned them and said its the same field and fed the same number of cows and was told that's just the way it works.

I've been out for 5 or 6 yrs.

The current scam with agristabilty designed by MNP is to run multiple companies on the same farm and run one into the ground.....or increase the acres of the farm so reference margin is recalculated to see a payment...

BUT you have to have MNP doing the paperwork to have them work the system....

Its a phucking crock of shit program and telling young farmers they might not have the premium to pay won't save a young farmer with zero equity and any amount of payments...

Maybe most of you haven't noticed but when the pandemic hit they had an adhoc program set up in days for the common worker ....farm groups are still arguing about agristability after 8 years since the last changes were made....

Conservatives on the committee include Lianne Rood who was an apprentice under Ritz and farmers think they will have any chance of a better program....if so you are on crack cocaine....

The way to a better program is to get the heads of the supply management team doing the talking....or pay them for the videos they have of politicians....in other words ...blackmail the bastard politicians...

Another way would be to have most of the farm groups start using the organ between their ears.....

Saskatchewan's ag minster has said the funding formula is a problem....this from a guy that is willing to spend 4.5 billion on a government tit sucking irrigation project....Saskatchewan has the money to support farmers ...they just dont want to...

In AB you are required to have crop insurance to use Ag Stab. If you are not they will adjust any claim to an amount assuming you were enrolled.

I'm the socialist, in what way? I'm not enrolled in either of the programs! I realized long ago that neither program would help my farm.
