My 17 year old (until tomorrow) decided to take a few more high school classes and work for a year and see what happens. Made sense to me, plus with all the CERB dropouts at work they made her assistant manager. The part that really tweaks me is that a lot of universities increased their student activities fees this year even though there are no activities.

They just cant do the education justice online. Trying to do labs and the lack of interaction with teachers and other students make this thing kind of waste IMO. The kid is not enjoying it. Too many distractions like the farm, girl friend and the life in general. He is gonna shut it down at Christmas and go back if things crank up in person in the fall. Its a shame but I cant argue with him. I'm not blaming anyone because I get the covid problem. Its just a shame.
Shut down learning at Christmas, then what? Be a housecat until spring?

My last post comes across as rude. What I am getting at is, this is a confusing time for young people. They need some general direction and disciplined structure for themselves.
At this time the governments want people to sit around at home and watch TV. This is training the most comfortable generation in the history of the world to think and do less than ever.

I’m not too worried about the younger ones, it’s the 30 somethings that seem to be sitting at home. Everywhere I go in town I see teenagers and early 20s working. Every one of my daughters’ (16 and almost 18) friends have jobs working retail or restaurant jobs, my 14 year old son already has a job lined up in a dealer shop as soon as he turns 15 and they can officially hire him.

In our case, my son got his class 1 over the summer so he is going to be hauling grain. My boys are always dragging old Fords in the yard from some place. I think the rural kids are more resilient than many adults, as long as they have cell coverage and bandwidth !
