    Market drivers

Seems to be equal amount or bearish news versus bullish at moment.

If beans and crude head north will rest of grain complex get dragged along for the ride or each will trade independently?

Barley is trending higher here last few days.

Or is it kinda political what ever happens with china and Russia the drivers?

Or South America rain, seems like they will get useful top up this week.

Bit tricky going foward for next month or so.

Canola seems easiest thing to market for you guys......do nothing, don’t even have to pay broker for that advice

Everything is still creeping up here. Sold some $258 barley for pick up next month. Canola is pushing $616 picked up as well. Might have to pull the pin on that too. I wonder where the top is going to end up being?

If only cattle could catch some “heat” from this hot market..................

Cows appear to be finally bottoming. Alberta fats are edging toward 1.40/lb FOB lot, but still 15 cents back of year ago levels. Carcass weights still high, but feedlot currentness should improve into 1st quarter. Need restaurants open to support wholesale beef.

Ya. It’s only $250 a head less for our yearlings than a year ago................ not bad if you say it fast. They’ll be likely getting getting sold in a couple weeks. I don’t think we can kick the can much further down the proverbial road. Expectations are set quite low so hopefully I’ll be “satisfied”................ if not there’s always next year. 😉

If you got pasture would it be worth breeding some heifers? The decent bred heifers here have been selling really well. Some pens selling over $3000. I'm very suprised, think that's way too high with calves down, cows way down and grain way up.

Are locals buying or are they going to stand in the truck for a long ride?

Not sure, in the world of online auctions you don't know so much who is buying.

We bred 160 and have the vet booked to preg test them next week. Had some bull issues and with the low prices we ran three cycles on them (normally do one or two only). It’ll be interesting to see how many caught. I figure a guy should expand more in the lower priced times and there’s plenty of feed too.

I couldn’t imagine paying $3k for a bred........... are these real pampered early calving show heifers trading or ones that can duke it out in the real world? Our breds are out grazing corn with some grain supplemented when it’s just the stalks left. They get tough or go to town..............
