Is that what you call a bin buster of a harvest? Apparently you weren't exaggerating about the yields this year...

Lots of smaller old wooden elevators owned by farmers here with no right to load railcars will turn out to be a big liability.
Unless you have a good reason to own one and use it enough to pay for the taxes, fire and liability insurance, maintenance and upkeep and eventual demolition, you are better to avoid them.

In Saskatchewan about 20 years ago SWP / Viterra sold most all of their old wood plants when they opened the concrete elevators. For the guys that bought them it has been a mixed bag. Some have done well and the elevators have held together well but most in my observation were not a good investment. I haul to a few places that have been bought by other companies in special crops and malt and its a struggle to keep them going. A real rat haven for sure. The closed Viterra at Eyebrow looks in good shape

Kinda scary how often you see maintenance crews working on new elevators just after they have been built. Seems no shortage of work for metal workers.

There is a former Sask Pool wood elevator up the road at Choiceland that is going through a big dollar reno revolving around a high capacity dryer set up.
Tore down the big wood annex and added 6 more big steel flat floor with big dryer all serviced from the main workhouse.
Used to be a small alfalfa plant next door so big gas service and big power.
Very nice high capacity set up that has 90 ft scale and recent upgrades to exterior.
On short line that they load cars out back.
