Jobs picture turns negative and there's more bad news to come, economists warn

Little piece of news snuck in Friday aft and almost ignored due the US hogging the news cycle.

Anyone who though canada was coming out should give their head a shake. Double dip depression. Lets repeat more insanity. 5 provinces extend lockdowns today for another month including curfews in Quebec.

Are the taps empty or can skippy find another $400B to throw down the drain.

Seasonal layoffs in retail start in January so the numbers in February won't look good . But look at all those job openings in gov replacing retired MPS..... They gave up there pensions too, right !!!!!

I have to be honest Jazz I am surprised that there was job growth for as much of 2020 as there was. There are certainly questions going forward. How much longer can businesses like airlines stay afloat running at 10-20% of capacity? What will government do if there is deflation, negative interest rates? Certainly hitting a spike of covid infections now, how much will new government restrictions affect the economy? January-March will be interesting.

The combination of ending business supports and the wage subsidy along with a light cull of useless government workers would put the unemployment rate up to a more honest 30% quite easily.

Jazz: Interesting fact that has gone over Jazz's and Saskfarmer's heads. 4 of the 5 provinces where the lockdowns are extended are governed by provincial conservative parties. Jazz why has the resurgence in Covid cases been highest in Conservative led provinces? Since it is provincial Conservative leadership that are doing the "insanity" with lockdowns, why are you blaming Liberals and Trudeau? After all health care is a provincial responsibility.

And do you think I can finally find a hired man worth hiring?

Interesting to say the least. A 3 months shutdown will destroy whats left.

If Quebecs first night under curfew is any indications we are all fcked. In advance of the curfew people gathered in larger crowds to get essential goods at the stores. Police cruisers, media in helicopters and drones flying overhead all looking for curfew breakers.

Ontario to probably try it next week.

                  This is nuts.

I bash any politicians that thinks tightening a noose on society is a solution to any thing and with zero evidence backing it. where is the evidence a curfew works? Just tried one in UK and Scotland. Australia cases rising again.

I blame Trudeau because what meager resources we do have, he squandered on his re-election trying to buy votes and ignoring extra health care transfers to the provinces all while killing the industries what could have brought us out with his carbon taxes.

And talking his UN bullsite about build back better and great reset and climate change all while the country hangs in the balance.

I will get behind a hard lockdown when the international flights stop.

This lockdown will be absolutely devastating if early reports are correct - factories, construction - everything.

Complete, deliberate destruction of the country's economic pulse.

Who has got these premiers by the short and curlies?

This is nothing other than blackmail by an external party with dark objectives.

There is no science to support these actions, which is exactly what I emailed the local MPP.

Good employers have staff, poor ones openings. That never changes.
