    Another one to notice

    On the radio this am.
First Nations wish to purchase Edmonton properties and convert them to Treaty Lands. Developed commercial.
My intentions are not to start a racially sensitive post. But to invoke thought. Plays along with the tax thread etc.
Your kids better get govt jobs LoL.

If by "purchased" they mean buying a market value from willing sellers using their own hard earned capital from other ventures and careers, to develop the property and create more wealth to end the cycle of poverty and victimhood, then I am all for it.
For some reason, I suspect that may not be the intention though.

Will property tax be paid on that land after the land is purchased?
How is this shortfall made up for?

Usually there is no tax after there is a service agreement reached with the municipality for services such as fire protection, water and sewer, garbage collection etc.

Are they going to pay for roads and infrastructure, seem to me that their getting a free ride on lots of stuff we pay for, and yet they don’t want to pay tax. When will all this foolishness stop? Eventually there will be a tipping point and we will be at the point of no return.

As others have pointed out this will serve to reduce the municipal tax base with that shifting the tax base else where. Fewer tax payers paying more of the taxes. A significant amount of education is payed for with property tax. Light commercial building pay a lot of tax on their premises so this will be a big shift and this scheme needs to be opposed as does pretty much everything government is up to these days.
