Just can’t keep up or don’t want to....

Was in bank this arvo depositing a cheque.

They said oh you don’t have to do that any more there’s a App that photographs cheque and numbers across bottom you the press send and you’ve deposited cheque.

    Keep original for records perhaps.

I really must be in dark ages but had zero idea such a technology exists.

    Guess it’s progress

So someone cleverly changes payee somehow and photographs cheque?

Anyway not for me this new depositing system.

Yet we have an elevator printing check in Winnipeg and overnight delivery to us. Yea it's a big new world. They screw up in Winnipeg lots so have to reissue.

Kids have been using this for a couple or three years here. I won't put a banking app on my phone. I don't feel that it is secure. There was a farm taken for $600,000 this year through a hacked phone.

        Don't want the grief.

Had credit card problems more than a few times.
Most after trips to USA. They still take your card and bugger off with it when you eat or go to a bar.

My son uses that pic of the cheque deal.
Also shops primarily on the internet. Doesn't seem to have as much trouble as us.

Someone used my card one time in Toronto. Canceled it and about 3 months later started using wifes card. Seemed to have access to the account?

Seems it can only be the hotel booking system. Somewhere along the way from the front desk to who knows where the card number is lifted and sold.

It's the only way to explain how a little while after your stay in Toronto you are buying furniture in South Carolina

Banks cover small ( under 1k?)
                Charges virtually no question.
The don't want anybody to stop using the plastic.

My wife's credit card was stolen couple months ago. I told the cops " let them keep it, they're spending less than she does"

Did one big check this way and it still says it's on hold for five days or walk in and deposit and it's good. Go figure.

Guess who benefits from a 5 day hold? Hint it isn't you.

Good to hear I’m not alone in the Stone Age. My grandparent, my dad. They’d be utterly disgusted with today’s world. Sucks being born sixty years late.

I wont do it either, also dont like e-transfers or direct deposit. Have had to pay a few bills recently where the receiver seemed quite put out that they had to take a cheque when it could have been electronic. For that matter I've had bank cards since the early 90s and could count on my hands how many times theyve been used. Cash, cheque or CC for me, you dont like it I go somewhere else.

Lots of people no longer have cheques. Kids activities often require a bond cheque for volunteering hours, the last couple years been a big stink from some because no cheques.

Similar situation to self checkouts and apps to order fast food. I prefer actually talking to someone and most of the time these things dont work as they should and takes longer anyhow. Dont these people that welcome these technologies understand that it's not about their convenience but rather about eliminating costly employees and bricks and mortar.

I’ve started using it since Covid, works well for the most part and don’t have to make a trip to town. The only thing that irks me is you can’t put a memo on your deposit and when you get your statement it shows a picture of all cheques you wrote but no picture of your deposits, I’d like to toss my deposit book. They already have the picture of the deposit, how hard would it be to show the deposit as well. My app is from a CU maybe banks do this.

About a year ago I applied for CPP and left direct deposit info blank, the gal insisted they had to direct deposit, I insisted that I wanted a check to fold up and put in my ass pocket after a bit of a go round I said I don’t have a bank account. A check is in my mail box each month!
