Off topic ........ kitchen decor 😉

Just doing some renos to the house this week. Have a good carpenter friend out and upgrading the lights and countertops in the kitchen as part of it. My wife would like something farm themed for lighting above the table. We’ve put a bunch of led pot lights in the ceiling which is a huge step forward from 30 year old fluorescents.

The kitchen lights aren’t even hooked up yet so this is just coming from the living room. The table is one that my brother and I built 20 years ago from a disk blade and baler bearings and weighs about 300 lbs or so. Looking for some interesting/unique ideas since there’s quite a diverse crowd here.

The neighbours have a section of diamond harrows suspended with lights coming down but my wife says that would clash with a round table. Thinking of possibly a big disk blade or a old steel wheel from a mower here possibly............ I’m sure there’s better ideas out there though.

    Thanks in advance. 🍀

If you are interested in the finest slab furniture order the catalogue for Bina Brand handmade tables at Four Hands Furniture in Portland. It is high price furniture that suits a farm house. Nice lighting is hard to find. We are looking to change ours in the farm house too so maybe we’ll learn from your inquiry.

If you want round you could use an old wagon wheel with hanging lights and the vintage style wire they use now a days, seen that in a western bar, looks nice, add in the eddison style led bulbs, gotta fit in with the rest of the house though.

Seen some light fixtures made out of antlers before, maybe could do some longhorn horns some how for a beef style. Might have to swap out those Angus bulls for a Texas Longhorn though to really play the part!

Or could string some round up jugs with orange baler twine and put a bulb in each jug, leave a little roundup in if you want more of a blue light. It's kinda sort of a tropical look. Yep that's the one.

Old refurbished wagon wheels with mounted LED lantern lights always look classy...

Classy fan lights cone in endless variations...

            Sky light through roof to give natural light plus your favourite for night in middle;

Flower pot lights either real or silk...

            Clock light.. CooCoo etc...

Stuffed trophy [wildlife, pheasant/owl/duck/goose etc] light...

Could do a grain grass flower clover alfalfa bloom sunflower light...

multi picture, back lit from inside 4,6,8 sided with family, farmstead, grandchildren etc...

            Windchimes

Multiple video monitors [like 3 in triangle outward tilted downward] with wi-fi feed of videos and or pictures, can even feed with security camera feed from farmstead drone live feed of cows! We record everyone who enters and leaves our yard 24/7/365 motion only... terabyte drives... can see dog chase car... fire in yard or building... windstorm blow over trees bins... when workers come and go each day... what they take,,,etc

            Have fun!

The last thing I want to look at when I come in from working all day to eat a meal in the kitchen is out dated or broken down farm equipment parts as decor .

Firstly, the kitchen is my wives work shop and being that her cooking is the best I've ever eaten, I'm not about to tell her I need reminders of how farm equipment looks when I sit down to eat.

Secondly if I tried to bring some of that old scrap iron in she'd tell to got eat in the shop, if that's what I think her kitchen should look like.

Just finishing up remodeling the kitchen to how she want's it, and all I can say is:

                Happy wife, happy life.

Friends who used to raise elk have something like that over their table. We use our antlers in the flower beds to keep the dogs and cats out. Great idea just not really into hunting though.

                        Must have:
                        - LED light bulbs
                        - dimmable
                        - over sized, if you use 100 watt incandescent get 150 or even 200 watt equivalent
                        - daylight
                        - cool white
                        - roughly 1750 to 2000 lumens
                        Etc

Dim the lights for every day, when you read the paper ( or wife does a puzzle)turn them up. 5 years from now when the eyes aren’t what they used to be you’ll be glad you did.
