Manitoba makes deal to buy Canadian-made COVID-19 vaccine

When I was reading these stories, I started to ask an obvious question: if facilities already exist in Manitoba for the production of vaccines, why haven't they already started producing them?

The answer: under the auspices of the Canada Health Act, it's undoubtedly illegal for anyone to offer a vaccine for sale privately. Thus, no vaccine producer is going to start up production of a vaccine without first having a contract with someone to pay for it.

Since sales to private citizens and/or for-profit vendors is out of the question, that leaves only one alternative: your company sits and waits until some government agency takes notice of you, enters into a lengthy period of negotiation and finally signs a contract. It doesn't matter if your product can meet an urgent consumer demand; the main criteria is meeting whatever budget a government authority has deemed adequate.

And does not the company that discovered the vaccine have the right to determine who can manufacture their vaccine, under what standards, and at what price? Or do you believe in the Chinese model of free enterprise whereby if the Manitoba plant could have reverse engineered the vaccine they should have been able to manufacture it with nothing paid to the company which discovered it and they should not need to have the product tested for quality or effectiveness (government roles)

If India and some 3rd world countries can get vaccines and Canada cant, its pretty clear we are being punished for our socialized health care system which is responsible for driving our research from this country and letting generics flourish.

And the only country talking about dangling a national pharmacare program based on that same model.

Just as countless manufacturers produce patented products under license for a fee. Again, what's your point? A government program to procure vaccines has to do the same thing, otherwise they are stealing.

On a vaccine efficacy only basis, Canada is in the best position because our local scientists will have extended timeframe to actually build a robust product for this virus and its possible mutations. The original virus and 3 or 4 mutations circling around and now being studied make the possibility of success for long term immunity much higher than the other countries who rushed out the first version. Both types of vaccines being developed here now and thats the only country I heard doing that. Thats the whole reason why vaccines have a long approval time.

On a lockdown basis, we are pretty screwed waiting for this but seems like many other countries are as well. UK has a significant portion of its population vaccinated and still locked down. If vaccination wont open you up, what will?

Because reopening is not the goal of any of the ruling elite. They don't care about you. Their actions show that. You may infer the motive for their actions from the outcome - the destruction of the mind and spirit of the people..

Trudeau's ineptness and total failure as a "leader" may actually work in our favor - this time. But rest assured that such was never his intention.

Other than the fact that he has squandered billions of dollars on useless and wasted donations to Big Pharma.

Came across this website which details all the vaccines that have been approved and are currently in trials world wide. You can click on each vaccine to see where it has been approved and is being used. You can also see where those in trials are being tested and the expected date they will be approved if the trials prove they are safe and effective. Worldwide there have been 11 vaccines approved in at least 1 country (Pfizer has the highest acceptance with approval in 57 countries now.) There are currently 80 more vaccines in trials.

Medicago is the Quebec vaccine and is currently in phase 2 and phase 3 trials. with tests in both Canada and the US. That is the good news, the bad is that researchers don't expect approval until April 2022 according to this website.

The Saskatoon VIDO vaccine is still in phase 1 and 2 trials; only being tested right now on 108 people and researchers for this vaccine do not expect approval at this time until February 2023.

The Providence vaccine that SK and MB purchased is not yet listed in trial on the site - at least that I saw.
