Detailed Tory plan will 'probably' meet climate goals faster than Liberals, without a federal carbon tax: O'Toole

OTTAWA — The Conservative election platform will contain a climate-change plan that could cut greenhouse-gas emissions faster than the Liberals’ plan will, party leader Erin O’Toole said Thursday.

O’Toole told a virtual audience of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade that he “loves” the net-zero approach to carbon emissions, though not the wide-ranging federal carbon tax, and his party is working on a plan that would get Canada to its emissions goals.

“You’re going to see a very detailed plan … that will, I think, make our commitments probably faster than Mr. Trudeau without a running-out-of-control federal carbon tax that he’s already promising,” O’Toole said during a question-and-answer session.

“Net-zero” is an approach that means either the Canadian economy will emit no greenhouse gases or will offset those emissions other ways, absorbing equivalent greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Last year, the Liberals tabled a bill that would require Canada to reach net zero by 2050, and will set rolling emissions targets in the meantime. more....

I do not like getting in on these threads....but just to be clear IMHO. Canada is already net zero...

and for those that think we are not...start using the organ between your ears.

Chuck do you wake up and actually use the thing between your ears.

Climate change is a ****ing joke.

all who support the theory are not that bright. you prove it every single post.

O'toole is not listening to you.

All three prairie provinces also have a greenhouse gas emission reduction plan including carbon taxes.

That's not really surprising...not many people or politicians do listen to me...I am just stupid...

But ...riddle me this, as I said in another thread.....where is the study on the reduction in emissions from lower hours usage on farm equipment...

And where is the government when all graincos have their elevators at the same location forcing farmers to haul further...

If the government actually gave a shit , that grain would be on the rails as close as possible...instead they keep rebuilding highways to accommodate grainco logistics...and the railways couldn't be happier...

As the former Conservative party continues to push further into the radical left, in a vain attempt to steal votes from the extreme left, it just provides every more fuel for separation. There is no path forward within this confederation.

Apparently Otool didnt study economics either. He says he wants industry to pay and not homeowners.

Didnt anybody tell him those costs will just be born but consumers anyway? And Canada is an export led economy. Our end consumers are in other countries, so we will have to pay for that too, which means the same prices for our goods but higher cost of production.

These politicians keep trying to deal with this so called issue and sinking themselves further because they cant figure a way to please this nutjob group thats become a large part of the know nothing electorate.

We would be better off to take $150B out of the treasury and announce a giant combined hydro nuclear reactor project in each province and be done with it.

It doesn't matter who is ultimately right or wrong today. Thousands of years is too long to wait to prove or disprove a theory.
The facts are that chucks have been saying the theory for so long it is believed by the majority. Get used to it.

Erin O'Toole announces that the Tories will institute a slightly different path to economic immolation than the Liberals if elected.

I choose not to pick either poison.

"former Conservative party continues to push further into the radical left" ? huh? Further to the centre is the correct description.

The reality is you are stuck on the extreme end of the conservative spectrum and society and conservatives have changed, but your thinking hasn't. That's why you are called a conservative and can't deal with change.

Canada is just too progressive for you. The majority of the country votes centre left with about 30% who are core Conservatives. Amongst the core Conservatives there are only a small percentage who would agree with your rhetoric. You can tell the ground has shifted when even Alberta elected an NDP government!

O'toole keeps his whack a mole hammer ready to keep the extremists fringe down so that he has a bit of hope of expanding the Conservative tent.

Why are you still living in Canada? You and many posters obviously hate Canada and there are many US states where the politics would be more to your liking. And if you pick a warm one you won't have to worry about freezing in the dark! LOL
