    Winter Wheat

Thoughts on the winter weather reaching down to the Gulf of Mexico? How will this effect the winter wheat throughout the central and southern states. Freezing temperatures predicted from here to the southern tip of Texas!

It is too early for the cold weather to hurt winter wheat much.

Winter Wheat needs to be jointing [small heads inside stem]... before much damage.

Winter Wheat freezes off.. often times comes back much thicker then... looks like good amount of snow with the cold... which will help the wheat as it has been dry.

American winter wheat dies three times before it yields a bumper.

When I come back home from Florida we head to Dallas then go north. In Late march the winter wheat is just starting to fill in Texas as you move north each state is heading then flag then greening up then snow at South Dakota. To early some on dry land could maybe freeze kill but it has 10 lives.

Agree SKFarmer, Wheat in Texas should be prone especially in mid February. Often these cold dips reach the wwheat in Nebraska, Kansas and maybe Oklahoma(which would still be dormant, for the most part), but to see really cold all the way down into Texas only happens every five years or so.

Doesn't really matter as we'll be told it wasn't cold enough, or the area that was really cold was small, or they don't grow wheat in those areas, or we won't know till harvesting begins, or something else,,,

Temperature forecast map for 3:00am Tuesday morning. Looks brutal. Winter wheat areas looking much colder than prairies. Showing large areas at -40'C, also showing close to -20'C near to Houston.
