South Africa received the first shipment of vaccines on Feb 1st, 2021. The South Africa variant was first discovered in samples collected between Oct 25 and Nov 25 in 3 south African provinces - well before there were any vaccines available. The question then is if a variant is a natural mutation or if it arose out of the astrazeneca trials done in South Africa and until that question is answered all else is speculation. Did some further research and found South Africa participated in phase 1 and 2 of the Astrazeneca trials. Beginning june 24,2020, 2070 South Africans living in Johannesburg and Cape Town participated in the trial with half receiving the Astrazeneca vaccine, the others a placebo. So1035 South Africans recieved this trial vaccine before discovery of the South African variant. Since these people are being tracked for a year, this may provide data on whether they were the source of the variant or if the variant occured naturally.

i think one is wise to weigh your odds of death or serious consequences from Covid infection versus possibility of lasting ill effects from an unproven , kinda vaccine.

The UK has 36% of its population with one shot as of today. Looking at their age demos, thats just about everyone 50 and older.

They still had 121 deaths yesterday and 52 today.

My parents are eligible here in sask but are probably electing to wait until fall until more data shakes out. They are worried Trudeau will give all our vaccines away to the 3rd world. Dad had the flu shot a few yrs back and had a pretty rough winter after getting it. They dont want to take any chances at their ages.
