    Barley, canola but wheat ?

Hauled $6 barley yesterday ( fun ) grain cos think bins pretty empty now along with canola in this area. But they also think there's a far bit of wheat in the area so the price standoff continues. I'm not so sure about that what do you guys think? Asked if my barley was going out west to feed cows, they laughed and laughed and said no cow was going to see this stuff.

And that is why we just recently informed one of our usual barley buyers that they are not going to be seeing any of our barley in their house next year.
We will make sure on our own that the barley goes through a cow or pig....

I don't understand, why does it matter what a buyer does with it after he buys it?

Because the ****ing buyer is China for Malt. They won't pay for malt barley so they buy feed and let the peasants drink that. Only the best for the poplulation. Oh, the big wigs drink better beer and wine.

Called about moving March contracted wheat for the third time yesterday. Watch a whole month of good hauling weather go by. When it snows again they will call for it so wheat is not that short. Supposed to snow today and road bans usually go on around now so here is hoping.

Very true, if you like the price it doesn't matter.

Over the last few years there has been a lot of barley that clearly did not go for feed. Specs were all over the place. The farmers that went by the book and met all specs for malt barley often wound up getting the same or less than the "feed"

Traditionally malt barley has always been billed as a premium product. Those days are gone....

One would think that at some point wheat needs to buy some acres back from oilseeds and feed grains.

But I'm not sure how many areas of the world that traditionally grow wheat even have the option of growing corn or soybeans etc., that haven't already made the switch.

Are there many swing states so to speak who can be motivated not to grow wheat if economics dictate? And would need to be motivated to grow it this year given the economics of the options?
