We have an RO system and just have it plumbed to the fridge for the ice maker and drinking water due to real high fluoride in the water. Makes nice ice, still cook with tap water and drink some also. One issue with RO water is that it scrubs all minerals out so as you drink it your body actually leaches some minerals out so not a super healthy situation.

Ours is in the mech room and is only 10 or 15 gal a day. Only about $300 to buy and cheap and east to maintain.

Think it depends what you are trying to accomplish, other filter options may be better.

City water in Regina was about $100 for 3 months in 2004-2005. Now our water is about $110-$120 per month. Most associated charges, sewer, storm sewer, meter rental, delivery charge.
