I see a overlap of two programs welfare and UBI at the expense of health care and infrastructure. That will take twice as many people to look after programs. We have been told that would not happen but we all know governments don't get smaller. Where does the money come from ?

It was the topic at coffee last night.
The example guy in town was brought
Up. He was pretty good at doing nothing before.
He likely will not change. Others will grab the
Opportunity.
Something is going to have to happen, what ?
60% of jobs will be replaced with machines.
It is a recipe for disaster, when all the wealth created by
The tech goes to the 1% that own it.
Where are the consumers with $ to buy the stuff the machines just made.
I do not know if guaranteed income is the answer , but what will you do with all those people that are too expensive to employ VS the machine that works around the clock for the cost of electricity.

Maybe instead of using cerb to buy big screens they should start investing.

“There are a lot who work and struggle. I doubt anyone here would argue that people should not get a decent wage for a days work. And I would like to hear the rest of the story. Does guaranteed basic income mean most welfare programs that support the able-bodied will disappear? The unions would scream blue murder to see that go downâ€
The theory behind UBI is that EVERY other support program would disappear at both federal and provincial levels and tens of thousands of bureaucrats would be obsolete and fired immediately. Also it would significantly simplify income taxes so thousands at CRA could be fired. It would theoretically save money in the end.
I’ve never heard any of the lefties who are pushing for it mention THAT part of the theory though, and I doubt even the conservatives would follow through. The leftie parties would likely hire a whole new bureaucracy to handle UBI and keep every other bureaucrat on the payroll too

And anyone who is satisfied to not work and lead a productive life, and better their( and our collective) well being is better off on a guaranteed income harmlessly sitting in their parents basement, campaigning for the NDP. We really don't want them in the workforce. They are a cancer on the remainder of the workforce. And I'm sure we have all worked with some prime examples.
The rest of us will pay the UBI back with our taxes, and continue to be productive members of society, unencumbered by trying to find a way to fit the toxic Chuck's of the world into the workforce.
An autobiographical account of someone who came out of an abject hillbilly setting with all its drugs, drunkenness, abuse, endless serial partners, etc and made a new life for himself, against all odds.
The bewildering thing that most of us cannot understand is that for many from that life, there is a strange sense of satisfaction with their poverty mixed with an inherent aversion to actual labour, according to his account.
He saw it, lived in it and could explain why, not that it made sense to anyone who actually finds reward in their work ethic.
They rationalized their poverty into a virtue and object for their self-proclaimed social justice grievances.
With how things are today, that could never happen again, could it?
