Putin's economy is hurting because of low oil prices and the tough new sanctions put on by the USA.

The Russian trick when they were expanding their empire has been to settle a number of their countrymen in newly acquired territories. Hence why eastern Ukraine has so many Russians and the “need” for Russia to intervene. These buggers play a long game but their advantage of large population is dwindling. They have accomplished amazing feats being isolated from western influences for the most part. They have also had many failures and outright disasters which have cost them massive casualties. They put up a good front and cause a lot of espionage mischief to keep the west at bay. Their large size and massive resource base helps but is also a hindrance as shipping it out is more costly and difficult than here. That is why I do not know how much longer Putin can be at odds with nato and the eu before he has to back off or he will be in a position of not having any bargaining power. You can understand why Russia has been at odds with the west forever as the west has tried to take advantage of them as well. However, all eyes are trained on Putin and with a Warhawk in Washington anything is possible.
