Reducing the use of nitrogen fertilizer sits at the heart of those recommendations — as it does in the federal budget. When applied to fields in excess, nitrogen fertilizer is broken down by microbes into nitrous oxide, explained Sean Smukler, a professor of soil science at the University of British Columbia.

That greenhouse gas is roughly 300 times more potent than CO2 and accounts for roughly half of Canada’s agricultural emissions. But soil testing and agronomic support — both of which are also funded in the budget — can help farmers substantially reduce their fertilizer use.

Jesus I thought I didn’t use much as it was. Put on less than what’s recommended cause I’m too broke and cheap as it is. Half of piss all is still piss all. What’s he expect us to go back to a third fallow or a plow down? Imagine how you’d swing rent on that. Farmland value would plummet. Seriously this bugger is either clueless or an evil person who wants to see the west depopulated and let the natives take it back for their personal playground. Makes me think upper and lower Canada and the basket case maritimes is all this piece of you know what is all he sees this country as. I’ve been a federalist but damn it gets harder every day to hold up a maple leaf and truly believe in it as it seems we are steadily disenfranchised by these people. I can understand somewhat how the natives were treated. Other words never let the government choose your destiny.

They don't want us making decisions, we produce far too much food for their liking. Bill Gates and other technocrats are investing heavily into bug protein yum.

I cant imagine a time in history when my family did not farm. There is no generation coming up to replace us and it is a tragedy I am not shedding any tears.

Justin and BILL likely own the shares in the tec company that's developing wheat that can fix it's own nitrogen. Bad enough I have to clean my own pens now I might have to clean my neighbors pens too just to grow crops.

Heard it on the radio? From an angry call in to a talk show? That's the same as heard it in the coffee shop. Nobody in government is suggesting that farmers are going to have to stop using nitrogen. Instead of spreading rumours try sticking to the facts.
