      We could all call Darrin Qualman and let him know how actual farmers feel about this. They do provide his number at the bottom of the article:
      (306) 230-9115

        We ain't seen nothing yet.
        Definitely coming.
        Nothing to stop it.
        Bet on it. Already here in some countries.
        Cloud access equipment monitors very useful. All that's available soon.
        Handy for a license application and issue or denial every operation.

        Burning potholes yesterday for discing got me thinking of this. Someday I won't be allowed to do this. Imagine the carbon release. As we pay tax on the fuel to go over it 10 times without... Or around it because it's mouse habitat.

        On the ground decisions will be made by an app or a desk jockey.
        Are we going to get paid more for that?? Equal footing to our foreign competitors?

          The article spoke to farm types and sizes not found on the prairies.
          The nfu propaganda is just that.
          Broadacre production always seeks efficiency through economics.
          Our problem is, no one is screaming our message.
          How many acres of lawn/turf grass in NA? How is fertilizer and pesticides applied to it?
          What about application methods on small family farms in Asia, India or Africa?
          We're an easy mark. Plain and simple.

              All good points Blackpowder . This has been predictable for a few years with the NFU alignment with liberal agendas .

                Such as China:
                Chinese farmers use an average of 305 kilograms of nitrogen per hectare per year – more than four times the global average

                  And the ironyof simultaneously trying to ban meat eating and animal agriculture(for manure) is completely lost on these twits.

                    So the NFU press release says nothing about stopping using nitrogen fertilizer use! So maybe you should hire a fact checker and stop spreading rumors? LOL

                    The majority of farmers are already trying to optimize fertilizer use and become more efficient and use BMPs. The only people threatened by this are those who don't believe climate change is real.

                    Here is what the NFU said in their press release:

                    Hire independent, public-servant agrologists to work with farmers to reduce fertilizer tonnage and input use overall while maintaining adequate yields;
                    Fund additional soil sampling and other monitoring and data collection to measure in-crop and end-of-year residual nitrogen levels and fertilizer-related emissions;
                    Assist all farmers in developing nutrient-management plans, adopting fertilizer efficiency measures such as 4R*, and finding alternatives to synthetic nitrogen;
                    Mandate fertilizer manufacturers to reduce carbon dioxide and methane emissions at production facilities; and
                    Increase support for alternative production systems such as organic, regenerative, and agroecological—helping farmers obtain fertility from biological rather than industrial sources.

                    “Farmers want to do our part to reduce Canadian emissions and to meet our international climate commitments. We welcome this announcement from the federal government and look forward to partnering with them. But we need to ensure that adequate federal and provincial funds are allocated to reaching this goal and that all policies and programs function to support and increase net farm income,” concluded the NFU President.

                    *4R means the right fertilizer formulation, at the right time, in the right place, at the right rate.

                      No such thing as "adequate" yield. Idiots.

                        Wow that screams communism, government dictating what is adequate and what your yield allotment will be, NFU is bat*#*# crazy.

                          Sounds like a Soviet boondoggle in the making. Like the factory instructed to make 10000 lbs of nails so they made 1000 10lb nails. Look up the Soviet electric tractor. We aren’t far away. At least they’re not jailing and killing people yet but it may happen yet.

                            Pity the "public servant agrologist" that tries to visit the farms around here. Hahaha what a frickin joke.

                              So you want only agronomists tied to input sales companies to give you advice? They are not independent and they often promote a product over other possible solutions that will save you money.

                              Large farms and hutterite colonies often hire independent agronomists to get unbiased advise. Most provinces still have crop and production specialists who give unbiased advise not linked to input sales.
