Friday Crop Report on a Thursday!

Well, a week has gone by and the snow still hasn't gone away.

I love the pictures posted the last few days. Out seeding just perfect conditions and in the background, you see at the other side of the field a snowbank sticking 100 ft out into the field. Sort of like the Skinny kid flexing his muscles and in the mirror, his mommy is taking the picture.

We have the usual suspects starting up in Regina today and probably Indian head Monday.

Here is a note to help out a cold snap that will be setting in the second week of May. Canola will be frozen back to the ground in Western Canada.

For us, it looks like a start date will be April 30th or May 3, or May 5th. Ok, it's a week-long guess but with the snowbanks, we still have I will bet that is when it's a go time. Our newest Canadian who is a transplant from Alberta is working every acre he can break up. Good on you for taking pasture and making it productive. He isn't afraid of work that's for sure. It did get two others to go out and disc froze ground that was broken the past winter. Got to go.

The last of the grain is getting cleaned and guys are either waiting for drills to arrive or tires for their new drills as duals are not on yet. Parts are short like everything and covid has shut down a few businesses. Seed and chemicals are arriving daily plus the last of the coated starter fertilizer. I'm doing my part to help Justin achieve his 30% reduction in Nitrogen. Again the Feds have zero clues that reducing fert like nitrogen by 30% would cut our yields huge with no replacement. Also in his budget the **** up part of the money for special grain dryers. Unless I have been living in a bubble the only way to dry grain effectively is with natural gas or propane and dry the grain. Solar and wind is what is suppose to happen in the field. Skippy and team diversity don't get farming is it our fault for not teaching them or are stupid people just not ever going to get it.

Tractors are out of the shed and getting serviced and fueled up ready for spring.

This next week you will see lots starting to harrow and burn and stone pick with the odd guy trying to seed.

Land hunt is on but looks like most deals are done for the year and the new guys are either BTOs, New Canadian Alberta transplants, or Forced purchase by the long term renters.

Canola and all grains are on fire and next week in Canada we have the official stats Canada report coming out.

    Here are my seeding intentions.

Because of the look, what canola is worth today and some farmers don't get you still have to grow a crop and dry conditions don't help plus fall isn't even close to today's prices.

Canola will be 22 mil acres
Spring wheat down to 16 mil
    Durum 6 mil
    Barley 9.5
    Oats 3.9
    Peas 4
    Lentils 4.5
    Flax 1

Wheat will be down because it's costly and the price doesn't reflect the worth of the crop.

8.37 x 90 works Not everyone can get these numbers so wheat will be down. Durum will be up because the south is dry and durum does the best.

Barley is going way up and up and up. because 6 feed barley at 100 is a nice payday for a crop that isn't that hard to grow. Oh, wait anyone ever see it so dry that Barley heads and is stuck in the boot and never lets the head out. Yea big yields all right.

Peas are up in Manitoba because they don't have the disease we have in Alberta and Sask from growing peas that the pulse growers continue to not address and just push for markets on a crop we can no longer grow. 8 years between works but you need lots of land to make that work.

Lentils and flax will be up as guys see last year price and will seed plus dry weather these to do better than canola.

Canola like I said all guys see is the $20 a bushel and they think 60 is achievable

So maybe something in the budget for farmers incorporated a program where you can spend up to 1.5 mil and get a tax incentive off your federal taxes for that year in that amount sort of like the programs in the 80s buy a tractor before midnight on the 30th of Dec.

The rest of the budget was a shit show nothing for Carbon sequestration and mostly bullshit programs with fluff and nothing more.

Oh, deere Thanks for the **** up on the sat system and now going out to redo a bunch of receivers and etc charging farmers again for tec change that you're causing. Oh, some beacons those guys changed up to won't arrive in time for spring.

Rubber shortage on vehicles and maybe farm tires coming. Order an SUV and not get it because it's on blocks at the factory.

Fun times but the reality is really not much moisture added in the last week we have a few storms moving through but it funny every time moisture is on the way the temps go from plus 15 to -10 and light snow.

Covid is bad as one of my son's X co-workers died in Regina he wasn't very old but it took him fast. Lots getting vaccinated but some are not getting it because they are young and maybe their children will grow to heads if they do. Millennials will be the group not taking and well see how that works out. For the rest, I feel you won't be able to travel unless you have the shots and it might be a yearly shot with your flu shot.

Canada's biggest debt ever. Skippy will have added more debt in 7 years than all the previous PMs in Canadian history combined.

Wow, all liberals must be happy. They should have to pay for this not the rest of us.

Enjoy the up-down weather, stay safe and enjoy clean wide open Western Canada.

Yike's I've seen barley that dry even our grasshoppers got skinny. We had to cut it anyway so we had a bit of straw to feed the cows.

Skippy gives Ralph a Gold star pension. He gets to move to England and represent Canada. What a ****ing joke. We dumped him and he just comes back.

Oh, also great news for farmers just now from Justin Trudeau.

We are going to cut our emissions by 40 to 50% by 2030 or in just 9 years.

ANy one with half a brain better wake up and realize they are coming after us Farmers next.

Warning shots in Budget cut fertilizer by 30 % and go green. These useless ****ing idiots have no idea what we do out here and it's the Chucks of the world who they are asking for advice. The very guys who hate farmers are advising the Feds.

Who did Boboo and Trudeau thank for their support for the budget it was the farmers union. What 10 guys in all of Saaskatchewna.

        Were ****ed as farmers. F U C K E D>

          Good morning All.

Seeding has begun down here in the SW corner. Myself , I am hoping to go at the end of the week. We actually have had good run off in my area with dugouts full , sloughs are starting to drop big time , so that tells me the ground could stand a 2 inch rain. Here's hoping ! cold temps every f#$king night and hay and grass not liking it.

I was planning to seed more durum , but not sure now. Maybe more feed grains chasing the elusive market that on the other side means my calves will be worth a lot less this fall. However , Cattle have paid lots of bills on our place in the last 110 + years , so they will stay for a while.

I am excited to get out in the field again and hope for a good crop , and hoping that the end of this stupid experiment called " Justin Trudeau" is soon on everyone's horizon.

          My question is this:

Can any of the posters on this forum who are from eastern Canada please tell me why our current "leader" is such a great idea ?

I remember my Dad telling me 5 years ago and I quote: We just got done paying for the assholes Dad , now they want to elect another one?

The west has always been loathed by the east , and this complete failure of a human being has been enabled to speed up the process , and the useful idiot that was elected south of the 49th is right there , doing the same thing to the USA.

It must be quite the trip in LaLa land to be a Liberal supporter.

Farmers did a good job last year...kept people employed at the railways, graincos, input dealers, dealerships....and what do we get ....more government restrictions of meeting an imaginary target....

World leaders in agriculture and they want us to go backwards.

The 100 million she offered in the budget is money already spent in taxes by farmers.

Air Canada took one billion in tickets and got the government to refund the money to the ticket holders.

AIr canada should have refunded that money not the government.

And farmers should not have had to pay the carbon tax in the first place.

And not to defend the railways but there should be no carbon taxes on railway fuel considering its the most efficient way to move products in this country.

We are 1/3 pulse rotation. Have already cut our fert by 30%. Theoretically we could roll back the N by 25-30lbs in the crop following lentils and not notice much of a yield hit. We never do but its possible. But this time, if that happens, I want it documented not like no till that we did for free for 30 yrs and now not recognized.

The days of complaining against the climate zealots are pretty much over. We are a lone voice in the wind now. Even yesterday the business groups and oil companies were jumping on the carbon capture handout and saying they are all for ESG. They dont want to be punished anymore so they cheer it now. US business all about climate and gender and diversity now too.

We lost this one, we are going to have to get on board now too or risk being destroyed and losing our markets.

I see W.A Grain had its license pulled by the CGC, everything isn’t roses in the pulse world either. I do grow peas but usually less than 10% of my acreage. I grow them because I like the straw for my cows.

On a different topic -3 and snow flurries here this morning. Neighbour started seeding yesterday, did about 50 acres and quit. Decided there was still too much frost in certain areas of the field.

Force farmers to cut back fert will be one big issue but they will also eliminate glyphosate as a tool...we are ****ed.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why farmers aren't picking up on what is about to hit us from Ottawa.

We are under attack and our guys are worried about grain drying costs from two years ago.

Come on People kind wake up.

Canola still on a tear but not like Soy today up .45 cents so far.

The worst part is...it is no different than getting a GST refund...the 100 million is not new money.

But the conservatives call it a win...FFS

Here is some fun info I believe the highest price ever for Canola was 1085.52 a Ton in November of 1975.

Let that sink in what could a canola farmer like us have bought in 1975 with that kind of money.

That was when money bought things not like now.

Larry am I right with that amount of off a bit.

I'm finding this thread funny as hell... almost everyone, bitching and moaning about what is about to happen to ag, what the Federal Liberals are about to do to us out west...

Quit bitching and stewing and do something about it.

Western Canada needs to leave this abusive relationship and the sooner the better.. anyone who thinks the Conservatives under O'Foole will be any different, is dreaming or hoping for a gov't appointment.

The time is Now for Western Canada to start the process of getting out from under Eastern Canadian domination.
