Try this it worked good for our well without the bleach smell. Had to use a fairly decent shot of it but been very good for a month now

Hydrogen peroxide. Cost effective in 20 litre pails. Works really well. Not corrosive like chlorine. Don't have to pump out well. No odour.

Yes somewhat. It also unprecipitates manganese. You may get little black chunks of manganese. We put a filter inline to keep the bits out of fixtures, softener, etc.
The water is softer though. We're hoping it will improve our water quality for crop spraying as well.
