Thank you to Blacklock's Reporter for this tidbit:

"We can never be sure the opinion we are endeavoring to stifle is a false opinion, and if we were sure, stifling it would be an evil still."

    - John Stuart Mill (1859)

    An example of some evil:

Guilbeault in public comments described the scope of pending regulations. Internet rules must maintain “the social fabric of our society,” Guilbeault said in an April 16 podcast. “Once a publication is flagged it will have to be taken down,” he added

Pamela Wall concerned about Bill C-10: “Use your own judgment,” said Wallin. “If you don’t like what someone has to say, change the channel. Cancel your subscription. You can hit mute if you don’t like my message.”

Free speech is enshrined in the charter. I really doubt that C10 can pass but strange goings-on with free speech lately.

Just over a year ago I tried to craft a piece of satire. I think it failed, but sadly the content is too true to reality -

“Liberals Double Back Down on Planned Media Controls

In response to an overwhelming public outcry, Trudeau’s Liberals performed a stunning, weekend non-reversal, swiftly doubling back down on their threat to impose controls on most public media.

“We just cannot risk our thin minority position in Parliament by letting the electorate know more of our plans”, mumbled a clearly-dejected looking Minister of Hairitage, Steven Guilbeault.

In his clarification of the censorious intentions he made clear the day before, Guilbeault admitted that the Liberal government was astonished to learn that many Canadian citizens actually remembered the existence of an ancient Charter document that enshrines Canadian liberties.

“We had no idea that the people of Canada would be so determined to uphold some basic principles of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, such as freedom of sharing personal opinions”, he added, momentarily lapsing into stunned silence.

In further comments, the Minister of Hairitage said that just because the news of plans to control media broke widely on Groundhog Day, the shadow it cast should not be taken as a sign of rough weather ahead for the ruling minority Trudeau Liberals.

The visibly unnerved Minister said that his shock was so great at the public’s vitriolic reaction to his plans to eliminate critical press that he would rather attempt to scale the CN Tower, one of the world’s highest man-made structures from which one could jump.

When reporters asked Gilbeault’s boss if he supported his underling’s proposed censorship, he replied, “Certainly, ah, um, certainly not. Ah, ah, we believe that Canadians deserve to hear only fair, fact-checked and ah, ah, balanced stories reaching their ears. And uh, we will protect them by deciding what that might include. Otherwise, without our help, this whole damn country could go to pot.””

            INTERNET BILL "AUTHORITARIAN"

"The bill is currently before the Commons heritage committee. Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Blanchet yesterday said his 32-member caucus will vote to pass the bill as quickly as possible, ensuring its passage in the Commons.

“In order to ensure that the protections of Bill C-10 and the improvements already made are not destroyed by the possible call of an upcoming election, the Bloc Québécois proposes to put the bill on the fast track for adoption in June before the end of the parliamentary session,” Blanchet said in a statement. “This is exceptional but we are ready to begin.” The Commons is scheduled to adjourn for its summer recess on June 23."

The title of this thread made me think, we have died on a lot of hills with this flu that replaced Influenza A & B with a death rate to match. Used to be fools and their money but looks like a lot of fools are happy to give away their rights. Right Blaithin? You sound like a young person who would stand up to tyranny but no, you side with them? Really?

                MPS REWRITE GUILBEAULT'S BILL

The committee approved a motion by Bloc Québécois MP Martin Champoux (Drummond, Que.) that regulation “should be done in a way that is compatible with freedom of expression guaranteed to users of social media services.” The vote was unanimous.

The motion proposes an additional guarantee that might address the concerns of a threat to freedom of expression. The objective is that the CRTC will consider the fundamental rights of expression in any decision they make.

                Hmmm.

Cabinet yesterday budgeted $3,164,228 to begin work on YouTube regulation though a bill permitting first-ever internet controls has yet to pass Parliament. “We will continue to do all we can to get it through as quickly as possible,” said Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault.

The Commons yesterday voted 181-147 to gag committee deliberation of Bill C-10 on regulation of legal internet content.

Liberal and Bloc Québécois MPs voted in favour of the motion to speed the bill’s passage.

Guilbeault told the Commons the gag motion was admittedly an “exceptional measure” but defended its use. “Bill C-10 must be passed as quickly as possible,” he told the Commons.

“Yes, there is a sense of urgency I am feeling,” said Guilbeault.

Only a minority of Canadians oppose federal regulation of legal internet content, Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault said yesterday.

Authors with the Privy Council think tank Policy Horizons Canada (2020 research paper "Exploring Social Futures") claimed internet sources other than newspapers, radio and television confused the public, made it difficult for Canadians to “tell fact from fiction,” and concluded social media like Facebook were “contributing to anxiety”.

The report claims there is "declining respect for science and traditional sense-making institutions such as print and broadcast journalism that are under pressure from the new digital information ecosystem."

Quebec wants the gag order so the liberal corruption and money laundering to their province does not get too exposed

This bill is simply to help sweep the real reason for many things going on under the rug and keep any of the truth from coming out
Communist ideals at work right before us in a free democracy that used to be Canada
