grasshoppers out and about?

I have heard reports that grass hoppers are bouncing around already in an area south east of Battleford.
Anyone else hear/see this yet?
Maybe the little buggers will either starve or freeze to death before things green up.

I wouldn't doubt it at all but in all likliehood those grasshoppers won't do significant damage to crops. I forget how many different species of grasshoppers there is in western canada but there is only a very few species that actually do economic type damage to crops. So my advice is take a valium and get all rested up for about three weeks then start worrying.

As far as Alberta is concerned, there are over 30 species of grasshopper; anly 5 of these are a threat to crops, and they come out later. The bugs you see now are a great source of food for returning birds, so as the other fellow said, chill out!
