Wow is all I can say with yesterday's heat. It will continue this way till Sunday then a cold front comes in with not much moisture some say.
The winds have been insane even yesterday they were calling for light winds well it was light at 25 km.
So here is the crop report.
Seeding is now at 96% complete in our area.
We have the usual organic guy ripping and seeding just now and the cowboy still hasn't sprayed but it isn't June 20th so all is good. The Super farmer who rents a lot is still going a little faster than other years maybe insurance has finally run out. The odd other guy is just finishing up as anhydrous trucks are still running around. By Monday most will be done.
Wheat is mostly all up and in decent rows. First year in a while, the early seeded April wheat looks really good. Spraying will start on early wheat next week. Wild oat weed pressure is min but canola is coming really thick since the rain on canola stubble.
Peas were so slow coming up this year not even funny. But since the rain they are up and growing fast. Spraying will start next week.
Barley was hurt from the cold and frost nights but has bounced back not bad and it also will be sprayed next week.
Few lentil fields but not that many as I would have thought considering how dry it was. Same as peas slow coming up.
Oats is still being seeded or just coming up.
Durum only a little in this area as grade is always a problem and HRS can out yield it now by quite a bit. All up and will be sprayed next week.
Canola is coming up and some spots are early some later. Seems the dry conditions some plants didn't germinate till the rain. The same amount of Canola seeded in our area as normal. Some fields that were missed with a burn-off due to the rain events will be sprayed early with liberty or RR if you use that system.
Pasture and hay fields liked the rain. Hay probably better than pastures. Some pastures that were over-grazed last year are having a hard time if guys put animals out early.
So in a nutshell, most are done seeding and now moving on to crop spraying. Some chemical guys are hoarding so could be in short supply. Flea beetles are not an issue yet but next week could be as most seed treatments are done. Yea this new seed treatment shit is shit. Use chemical that works poorly then add more chemical to kill them again. Just like a liberal, it makes zero sense.
Don't get me wrong the rain was very much needed it was like taking your father's car with an empty tank and adding 25 bucks. But your hot date was in Swift your going to need more fuel for the trip home and don't park too long-running the car. Wink wink. Simply speaking we need more rain and some will need more rain after this heatwave real quick. The billion-dollar rain they were bragging about will look like a dollar store Chinese piece of crap real quick if we don't get some more rain soon.
Yes, I liked the rain as everything is trying to go green again my favorite color.
All these canola plants coming to Sask is the best news ever. Now we just need them to pay up for the product they buy from us. Share the wealth not -40 basis just for fun. Also, the straw factory just don't light any matches or hire any smokers. I like keeping my straw for my soil so they also better pay up for the natural product. Yes, it's good for the environment and we're not buying it from Chinese factories so also a plus.
Funny thing the NDP wants all three western provinces to join the Fed Ag Stab program to help farmers. Where has the NDP ever given one bit of crap for farmers. Really never not once. So why now do they want to help us on a program not one real farmer likes unless your a special group who knows how to play the system every couple of years.
The heat is on the final push to seed is on and with the heat maybe it's too early to spray so just take a few and go fishing like I use to do. Did find my fishing boat so who knows.
Keep safe and remember we need to get to 70% in Saskatchewan so get vaccinated and then we can throw those ****ing masks away and get on with our lives.
