    Custom seeding

Wound up doing some seeding for a neighbor. WTH is retail on a 60', one pass, liquid setup, with truck.
It was canola so less bulk. 2 fills on 800 acres.

If you supply the tractor, drill, plus a man and fuel replacement cost(hahaha)...I wouldn't do it for less than 35 an acre.

Thats close to 1K$/hr... GNR = closer to $25/ac.

      Cheers

Assuming GNR means good neighbor rate?

        Quizzed a Camrose custom operator.
Most $32 he says. Figured I'd go what Tom says based on circumstances.
        Thanks.

Be careful or you might be getting calls to wear out your machinery on more guys land.

Pencilling 25 bucks an acre....it almost pays to get it custom seeded...instead of repairs fuel maintenance etc.

How far are you willing to travel? For 2022?

Hang on, this was a one off for a cousin. When I was younger I did all that. Education is expensive.

$25 seems to be going rate around here, one guy charges $15 but think his idea is to get a foot in the door and eventually rent the land cause that's how it seems to go.

As for custom rates vs doing it yourself I think you could argue custom is cheaper for just about everything, I wonder every year why I run a combine when the custom guys will put it in the bin for $35 to $45. Then I remember they had lots of acres booked a couple recent years and never showed up.

Usually the “family” rate is more of a surcharge or has many unexpected strings attached…………..

Maybe I’m just the lucky one😉
