We drove up and back to Saskatoon yesterday. With a tail wind like that gas burned was nothing on way up. All fuel used was the drive back against the wind. Total usage 50 liters in 668 km. Gimme a Big Jeep, all day-everyday. Yuk-She-Myish.

Plant population looked generally patchy all the way up. The perimeters of many fields were gone, must have been eaten off. Wherever straw was dense, either poor emergence or cutworms left large blanks in field. Our poor Canola is still trying to find the narrowest crack in the crust where it can get some air. We are a long way from ground cover and it is mid June. No bumper out there, I’d say.

Would have to agree , be average at best with perfect conditions going forward
This crop in general was seeded slightly earlier but that cold May, frost and bug damage set most back at least 10 days or more
Going to need a frost free August and into early September in many areas

anyone who thinks farming is easy has absolutely no clue .

This was green canola yesterday. I have 450ac just like that. The hail was so big and hard that it went right into the dirt. Field would be white in the picture but all the stones are muddy. West of Olds/Didsbury yesterday.

That really sad to see GDR
Hail insurance this time of year is nearly useless as they will just defer most cases and end up paying little unless it’s totally written off

In Alberta even with 100% defoliation I think the max payout is 20 or 25% before July 1st I think?? been there. Cereals are tough to get any claim.

We got it july 2 last year
Wrote off and worked up 33% of farm mostly canola and 320 of peas
