The East built the West. They have a solid 300 years on us. If we can’t manage a few decades of supporting them then wtf do we think being part of a country is even about? As resources change and economics fluctuate and populations grow all countries will experience changes and supports. The idea that we can always be appreciated and supported is a pipe dream.[/QUOTE]

How do you think many independent nations evolved? They broke away, put on their big-boy pants and kissed the “ mother nation” goodbye. I hope I live long enough to see the West grow up. There is no doubt in my mind we will do just fine.

Correct , a government that now feels it has the right to give away a tremendous amount of money to those who don’t earn it .. the liberals.
Not here to argue just simply pointing out that wealth is created and earned not handed out like participation ribbons at a track meet . There is a reason why some have more than others
Many have a lot more than me , as long as they have earned it .. good on them 👍

Joining the States would not be growing up and becoming independent. It would be going to a Foster home.

I don’t think it’s wholly a liberal thing. It’s a today’s day and age thing. It’s definitely not specific to liberal or Canada.

And while I think it’s becoming extremely excessive, I don’t think separating is an answer.

This one statement tells us all we need to know about why getting out is the only possible option.
This bitterness, resentment, jealousy by lazy entitled socialists is rampant in the ROC.

Propose a workable solution within the existing confederation. I would far prefer that outcome if I could see a viable path.
Keeping in mind that due to the population distribution, that any proposed solution that involves the democratic process will only make the situation worse in the west.

And that regardless of what we do within Canada, it won't change the US policy, which is pushing us to one outcome only.

I am not a fan of joining the United States. I am a fan of creating a new country that would include Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Northern B.C. Canada’s agenda is now controlled by Quebec. The Bloc Québécois has far more control of the national agenda than all 4 western provinces put together, anyone who can’t see this is being willfully blind. I emailed one a National Post journalist the other day and I said Canadians have become a bunch of thumb sucking wimps who think more government is the answer, really a sad state of affairs imo. Enjoy your day.

Which is where I pause and try and find the difference. Why can older generations say it about Alberta and it’s legit but if a young adult says it it’s worthy of scorn. To me they are very, very similar. Discontent people with an inflated sense of self worth.
Fair enough...just thought I would throw my comment out there.

Now on the topic at hand ...I will say this...western Canada needs a better deal.

And for joining the states ...as a farmer ...I do think we would be better off if a guy stays farming as opposed to selling out to wealthy American farmers. Our land to them would be a bargain.

As others have stated Alberta getting out of canuckistan boils down to one thing: Alberta can remain a first world country and pay its bills. Canuckistan can't and Alberta can't afford to pay all of canuckistan's bills any longer. The only industry in canuckistan that can stand on its own two feet is the energy industry. And to a lesser extent the related agriculture industry. Everything else is a joke and is simply not competitive on the world stage. The country is an army of government workers and there is no export market for bureaucracy. This has evolved due to the energy industry's wealth being tapped to support it but now it is debt that supports all that. Canuckistan also natural disadvantages including poor weather and poor geography to overcome as well so it will not remain in the first world after borrowing room runs out. So the remoaners in this case are for the most part that army of government workers. As for hostile neighboring regions, they are hostile right now and an independent AB would have more leverage.
