Only patriotic noble Albertans holding together the Frankenstein monster now. Lets see how long that lasts.
Even more arrogance and meglomania (delusion about one's own power or importance (typically as a symptom of manic or paranoid disorder) from Alberta? That explains it then.
So Saskatchewan and Manitoba contribute nothing to western Canada? It's only Alberta?
And just because Alberta won the geology lottery?
Jazz, you sure know how to win friends and stick your foot in your mouth. In this case both feet right up to your arse.

Parsley, it is interesting you bring up the history of Sweden and Norway.
It wasn't that long ago that you tried to tell us Sweden is failed state, primarily because of the lawlessness of immigrants. It's always the immigrants that ruin countries. LOL
And Norway? One of the richest and most taxed countries in the world with a very high standard of living primarily because of north sea oil and gas. They are some serious fiscally conservative socialists with their massive trillion dollar sovereign wealth fund.
The reason Alberta is in trouble with deficits is they don't manage taxation very well and love their low provincial taxes. Its unsustainable, considering that oil revenues are likely to start seriously declining as the world moves to a low carbon future. It's no wonder many Albertan's are perennially pissed off. The spending party is just about over and the money just isn't going to be there like it used to be.
Norwegians treated oil liked they owned it. Albertans on the other hand, gave it away and spent most of the one time resource revenue on core services and infrastructure. They forgot the lessons Peter Lougheed taught them about managing a finite resource in the public interest.
Norway’s Oil Savings Just Hit $1 Trillion. Alberta Has $17 Billion. What Gives?
https://thenarwhal.ca/norway-s-oil-savings-just-hit-1-trillion-alberta-has-17-billion-what-s-gives/
"In 2015, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce calculated that Alberta’s sovereign wealth fund would be worth $40.9 billion if it followed Alaska’s model of taxation and $163.7 billion in the case of Norway.
That same year, Mitchell Anderson of The Tyee calculated much of that difference has to do with a difference in collected royalties.
“Norway realized revenues of $87.69 per barrel in 2013. Alaska managed $38.54. And Alberta? Just $4.38 — one-twentieth what our Norwegian cousins managed to rake in,†Anderson wrote.
But it comes down to more than how royalties are collected and has to do with funds being saved or spent.
Every dollar that’s invested in a sovereign wealth fund is a dollar that can’t be spent on healthcare, education, social services or infrastructure projects — all things Alberta funds through oil revenues.
Simply put, Alberta’s savings are so low because the province choses to spend the money on iminent, rather than future, needs."
In other words, instead of saving money in a Norway-like publicly managed fund, Alberta has chosen to buffer the gap between low taxes and high spending levels with oil and gas revenues.
Using oil revenues to fill provincial coffers lies at the root of what is known as the “Alberta advantage†— perpetually low income, corporate and sales taxes.
But those advantages come at high cost and with a high risk: the province is beholden to the historically volatile price of crude oil.
Price crashes throughout the decades, most recently in 2014, have resulted in huge deficits for Alberta.
Between 2014 and 2015 Alberta collected $8.9 billion in royalties. That fell to $2.8 billion 2015 to 2016. Over the last year the province added $10.3 billion to its deficit, with a provincial debt of over $33 billion.*
Alberta could choose to increase sales taxes to alleviate the reliance on natural resource revenues, as Saskatchewan recently did, but a political distaste for taxes makes that unlikely."

Did you read the equalization numbers chuck. Can you read LOL. $500B from AB has been transferred to the socialist hell hole parts of this country and promptly squandered.
So our sovereign wealth fund has already been spent keeping this unholy fake confederation afloat.

It seems like just a couple of weeks ago that Chuck was lecturing us all about only using credible sources.
Then he manages to quote not only the Narwhal but also the Tyee all in the same post.
That is almost as funny as quoting the amateur astronomer from the CBC about global warming.
I ask seriously, are there no adults in your life to warn you when you are making as ass of yourself in public?

I guess if it is thier money they can do what ever they want to do with it.
By your thinking we are best to send all the money to government because they know best what to spend it on.
How has that been working recently?
If Norway has a trillion dollars that belongs to the people of Norway why do they have one of the highest tax rates in the world?
Why do they need personal tax at all? They have the money sitting there.

The question then becomes would albertans have invested that money in Alberta or would they have “squandered†it in Florida and Arizona homes, and spent half the year of their consumer spending outside canada returning very little additional to the Canadian economy
I guess we could try some kind of wall with guard towers and just shoot the odd one leaving the country spending money that is rightfully the governments to distribute to improve services where they think they can get the most votes.
I think that has been successful in some situations for some time.

Originally posted by parsley View PostJust read through this , and was reminded that many Western Canadians are just as “fed up†with the rest of Canada, as the Norwegians were fed up with Sweden.
The two Scandanavian cultures were one country, but the Norwegjans wanted their own language and culture. Maybe the Norwegians were disparaged similarily to how today’s ROC debases Western Canadians with trigger words: Rednecks. Half tons. Rodeo. Old white men. Colonialists. You know what they are.
One day, Norway held a vote to separate from Sweden. And it passed, so they took their counted vote over to the Swedish Parliament and formalized the request to separate
Sweden accepted rhe decision to separate, and worked with Norway for several years to facilitate the separation. Not a shot was fired No one died. And they continue to maintain a tolerant neighbourship as both independent countries individually grew, and flourished
A good decision, it was.
Western Canada can and should also separate because Western Canadians have exceptiional
skills, are educated, have generational experience, and an awesome work ethic that will allow us to succeed.
Westerners seek independence from those who no longer share similar social constructs, customs and beliefs. There is a big rift in Canada’s institutional, political and cultural values.
The time has come to say goodbye. Pars
And if I thought it was possible I would be a Westerner in two shakes of a lambs tail and get out of this Marxist, totalitarian hole that Ontario is rapidly descending into.
But is it that simple? And would it even be allowed? Does Alberta really think that it would be able to resist the powers and forces that would oppose such a development? The military option has already been mentioned.
But whose military?
Alberta isn't facing just Eastern oppression, although that has ostensibly been, until now, the main source of it..
To think that the R.o.C. would be the main opposition would be to overlook the Globalist forces that are working everywhere to subvert everything that made Canada one of the wealthiest and best countries in the world. (And that "everything" is a great topic of discussion on its own, and too involved for this purpose and space.)
An independent Alberta (or Western entity) would very likely grow into a world-class center of prosperity, just as many would imagine. Maybe not a Qatar, but certainly far above the average in Canada, likely the U.S., and certainly far wealthier than about 99.5% of the world's people.
And that, my friends, we cannot tolerate under the Great Reset that the Prime Minstrel and his piggy banker have repeatedly extolled - although not lately - have you noticed? (Why has that gone pretty quiet?)
The machine has been set in motion. The road to complete Globalism is more than an obscure path. It is quickly becoming a multi-lane freeway that is built by the unseeing and traveled by those who would control every aspect of our lives.
Does anyone actually believe that vaxxports will be only for combating the Wuhan Flu? And further, that having one will give you your liberties back? The ones surrendered for a fleeting moment of "safety" and security? No masks! No more distancing! No more sickness! Two weeks to flatten the curve! Just two more weeks! Just one more lock-down! Just....trust the experts...
You want to get your jab? Go ahead, you're free to do so. Just be prepared to accept that it will make very little difference in the end - as far as catching SARS CoVID2 and even worse, as far as getting those freedoms back that you gave up with barely a whimper.
You want your jabber card? They'll gladly give it to you. It might even let you into your favorite bar or sports complex for a while!
But once they put it in your hand, you have given your full consent to having someone else decide for you for the rest of your life the terms and parameters by which you shall be allowed to participate in society.
How long did/will that freedom last you? Your vaxxport isn't updated - did you skip a required jab? Your social credit score is negative - where have you been?
This morning I cleaned up an overgrown patch behind the implement shed - thistles, burdock, wild raspberry canes, accumulated junk.
The "weeds" all started because of an old camper trailer that needs to be hauled to the dump instead of sitting there unused. I pulled it out of the ruts it had sunk into and it's leaving our yard.
As I pulled the berry canes out by their roots, i picked the ripe fruit they produced and ate them all up with real enjoyment. Destroyed the raspberry plants while scarfing back the berries they produced. I felt no remorse whatsoever because I considered the plants a weed. And there are lots more elsewhere...
The globalists, with their eyes on the wealth in Western Canada, would feel no worse than I did while they move to uproot stubborn Western Canadians to achieve their nihilistic goals. It would be a gross oversight to underestimate the determination of the evil that has set out to destroy all of our lives, not just Albertans.
So, sure, it's a worthy dream to separate from the R.o.C and enjoy liberty and wealth.
But with all the hands pulling the puppet strings in this world, would it not be prudent to consider the big picture and see what's really going on?
In my humble opinion, the best that all of us can to right now do achieve a better future is to oppose any further means of restricting our shriveled liberties and fight the diabolical beasts who would make all come to them with hat in hand for a crust of bread.
Then, hopefully, we will be around and free to take care of the rest of the business.Last edited by burnt; Aug 14, 2021, 12:25.

Equalization funds are distributed not based on potential votes as you claim but based on a formula looking at needs and the ability for a province to raise funds and was designed and implemented by the Harper conservatives (including cabinet minister Jason Kenney) in 2007 with the only changes made since then by the same party in 2009.
the purpose of equalization is to ensure all Canadians have access to basic social services that the government offers regardless of where you live in Canada. For example, Canada offers universal health care and a province like PEI with a small population, few resources, and limited ability to pay for universal health care receives equalization funds from a province like Alberta which raises more money than is needed through the same federal tax rate to provide the same basic services. Anyone arguing with this formula is basically saying hey PEI farmer, you do not deserve the same health care as an Alberta farmer.
Finally, society, not government decides what services government provides every time there is an election. Calling for farm disaster or support programs are calling for more government service and if farmers want those programs they need to convince society it is needed more than convincing vote seeking politicians who are continually called to reduce government spendingLast edited by dmlfarmer; Aug 15, 2021, 00:26.

I thought it was a typo… but apparently not…
Thx Edmonton Elks????
And you dream that in Alberta our woke bunch have one micro anything of common sense or enough patriotism to get insulted and embarrassed to do anything but conform to the UN and Davos reset bandwagon…?????
If you were wondering what the end of civilization was going to look like…
As the Good Book by King Jesus says:
If MY people Who are called by my name; would humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways, …I would hear from Heaven and heal their Land…
Instead we insult the designer and architect of the Universe… saying that our planet is nothing more than a chance event ..: to entertain the Devil and his minions!
God please have Mercy on us… we deserve exactly what we are reaping now…the seeds of arrogance, pride, and deceit…
Have a thought full wonderful Lords Day… and let us be thankful for the blessings King Jesus has given us!!!
Have a safe and joyful harvest!!!
CheersLast edited by TOM4CWB; Aug 15, 2021, 07:14.
