Well here where I live ( NW of Maple Creek ) , the crops are holding for now. She hit 37 degrees today and some wind with it , no like 2 weeks ago when it was 38 and 40 for two days with a SW wind at 50 mph. That didn't help anything. Pastures are turning now , and it looks like the forecast for next week is a high of 38 for a few days, not good at all. Peas look poor , and cereals look good, but EVERYTHING needs an inch of rain.

two and a 1/4 inches of moisture does not a bumper crop make !

      Take care all.

Guys are pre/selling their large green lentils for 35cents/lb and green peas for $9.00. Wow, hope they have act-of God.

When do you ever come out ahead from pre selling pulse?
It must be like 1 outta 9 years thing.
          Than the grading games begin

What if the harvest is less and its real value is higher? The preliminary cost is not bad, but the weather is very unstable right now.

Some of the early canola in the area is doing that one spike and blooming thing. Ground is not covered and you can see the jackrabbit trying to hide at 500 yards. You can stroke that stuff off the 40 bu list !

                Temperatures next week mid 30’s

Early canola bolts with buds for flowers just in time. Not sure if early seeded will be better than late seeded?

All i can say at this time is, “it’s concerning “

If the forecast holds true it looking more and more like a small crop coming.

2002 the crop hung on until the July 1 long weekend. That weekend the temps shot up to mid and high 30's and that kind of ended it.

What happened to “we need above average rain fall to grow a below average crop this year”.

We are on the precipice on having the best crop in a decade or the worst in 2 decades. Honestly our crops look really good, but we are surviving on soil moisture, and small timely rains(2 1/2" since the snow left). If we get an inch in the next ten days we'd be golden, if we don't get any rain we are going to be going backwards fast. No rain in any forecast for the next two weeks, lets hope their forecasts are as accurate as always. We certainly don't have enough soil moisture to take us through grain fill.
