Well, what a week for flying a kite. Ah, who am I fooling the fricking wind has been insane and the only time you can spray is between the hours of 4 AM or earlier and maybe 10 if you're lucky. Or you push the last tank.
50 Km winds arent helping with the moisture deficit that most farms have. Pictures are coming out of ND and Montana looking at what crop they have and well the count down is on we have 2 weeks to get some rain or this crop is toast.
To the Billion dollar rain bunch, it was a strip only a few miles wide that hit Regina. Really what was it nothing more than a downpour that ran off and filled sloughs.
Why in this country cant we have a decent crop report not some fluff for the city minions.
Total rain for the week is .1 or a 1/10 so basically **** all.
The total for the year is now 3.7 in since April.
Here is the crop report as I am just heading out to spray some wheat before the main rain event. HAHAHAHAHAHA
HRS and Durum are growing and one thing I notice is different stages of the crop. You have wheat that is at the flag all the way down to just the second leaf. Going to make midge spraying or fungicides (if it rains
) really hard to time. You won't because it's all over the map. Most have finished wheat or are just ending. I have two days left. Switched to a more expensive spray as wheat has jumped ahead of me. Lots are switching up and the product is hard to find.
Peas and lentils are the same a bunch of different stages. Lots of chem burn on peas and the cold temps didn't help with the peas we had. They are starting to grow out of the delayed stage after the viper application and the odd one has a flower.
Flax is being sprayed and some fields are nice others are what happened. especially flax on canola or pea stubble.
Canola is the crop that is all over the map and patchy as hell. Some fields are awesome and then you go a mile away and it's WTF happened. Everywhere from Bolting to cabbage to just out of the ground. Fungicide spraying will be a real problem on timing.
Some first cut alfalfa has happened and not as thick as it looked from the road second cut won't happen if no rain.
Hayfields look not bad but won't have that high of yield.
Pastures are going downhill again as rain is badly needed.
So the politicians can tell us the crop is wonderful and some market experts who bosted about huge yields last year can say we have a good decent start here is the truth instead of the BS.
This crop is 2 weeks away from being the biggest disaster in Saskatchewan history. You have no reserve moisture and with the heat event coming and if the winds continue this crop is in trouble or will be really fast. 30 plus and 50 km winds don't make optimum growing conditions. Rain is badly needed real soon.
So off to spray have a great day and stay safe.
