Seeing the same thing here...lots of patchy canola fields that should have had good germination after being seeded early and getting a adequate rain to germinate. More noticeable on lentil stubble as well.

Solo/imi residual??????

That happened a few years ago and heard rumours BASF had to shell out for some claims....

I put canola on both cereal and lentil stubble this yr only a day apart and the stuff on the wheat stubble looks like its a week ahead of the other. Spring was dry but both got equal shots of a good rain.

No sense calling the chem rep, they will just say its my fault.

Fu king wind is moving on up again and zero rain here just a bunch of useless wind. Last 6 quarters and I have canola on the east side of me on all of them the wind is out of SW so will be rolling into it if I spray

7-9 tenths here this afternoon. Canola on lentil stubble showing chemical damage as is durum seeded on same stubble on lighter soil areas. Durum seeded on canola stubble doing the best. Lentils all over the map. Early doing the best but short and starting to flower. Frost damage in canola and barley but should recover with rain event now. Crops have a long way to the finish line. Hopefully forecast heat produces some thunderstorms

You guys that spray real early in the morning, do you worry about the heavy dew? I was told that weed control was marginal when the heavy dew had the plants wet, so have not sprayed till 7 am or later. Very hard to get any acres sprayed that late. Only field I did try years ago when the dew was dripping wet was poor wild oat control, so I never tried again.

I'm not the guy to answer that question because I have only got my shit togeather a couple times any earlier than 7 to go spraying even with the best of intentions. But on the other end of the spectrum when I was spraying wheat a couple weeks ago it was always windy so was trying to hit both ends of the day. I sprayed some in the dark around midnight and wasnt sure if that was a good idea but looks to have done really well.

Where’s the smoke when you need it.....

Out here there’s smoke. Not doing any good though. Stony plain to our east lost their curling rink yesterday. The day before that 600 acres of muskeg burnt to the NW of us. Did some welding today on fence braces and soaked the ground before starting. Having wildfires here in May and June is definitely a sign that it’s tinder dry.

Crop conditions out here are diminishing like the ice in my water jug was today while building fence.

Here’s a pasture the cows have been off for two weeks now. Currently planning on a single pass of grazing which puts us at about a month or so left of grass. Gonna be a looooong summer.


Helped my cousin build a quarter mile of fence today to keep my yearlings in that he’s custom pasturing since the creek is drying up that normally keeps them in. On a positive note we didn’t have to mow the grass to string wire and such😉

Our canola varies from SoSo to probably not worth combining due to crummy establishment in dry dirt. Strangely the worst fields are hidden down some dirt trails instead of along the pavement. Not like normal for us.

Barley is doing a little better but the flag leaves are starting to show……….. way too early in my mind.

Corn is coming along and will enjoy the heat as long as the roots can keep ahead of the dry moving down in the soil.

Hay is looking like a 1/4 to a 1/2 of normal and starting to get cut. Gotta build a couple miles of fence to graze the hayfields here. No sense in baling something to feed it a month later.

Crop insurance adjusters will be busy around here this year. With the forecasted heat I think it’s time to get a boat and get away from these parched hills of ours.


At least the girls are happy and doing good. Not many flies and no mosquitoes. They better enjoy the grass while it lasts🍀

Was up in the northern forest early this week , fire hazard was minimal.
May change a bit next week

Finished second liberty pass on canola last night so maybe done except for those dam grasshoppers. Hard to get ahead of them when it stays dry like it is. Dew on crop hasn't been a problem when spraying because we haven't had any yet. Guys cutting hay should not be any shortage of twine or bale wrap this year !
