Free speech comes with responsibilities

While Agriville.com has long been a free and open platform for farmers, ranchers and agricultural professionals to engage with each other, ask farming questions, and share stories related to their experiences with agriculture, we have received several complaints recently about the conduct of some Agriville.com users.

Agriville.com has always championed free speech and believe that we should all be free to express and share our thoughts and feelings about farming and ag-related topics in a respectful manner, but it seems that a few posters have been using this platform to regularly discuss highly divisive topics that are not related to agriculture, such as the origins of the COVID-19 virus, the validity of vaccines, and even the gender of Canada’s chief medical officer. We will not tolerate any form of hate speech or defamation.

We feel we must speak out. Please understand that while we value your unique opinions and the value that you bring to farming/ag discussions, we ask that you please consider that nature and intent of this site – a place for people in the ag community to share and discuss the issues that matter most in their professional lives – farming.

Some users have quit the site in protest. We would encourage users to report abusers. If necessary, we will take appropriate action with users who continue to post highly divisive, non-ag topics, and/or which include factually false statements, that provide no value to the farming community.

Farming doesnt exist in a bubble. Its affected by hundreds of variables. We arent allowed to talk about anything else? Divisive topics? Have you listened to any politicians or media lately?

Unfortunately I fear too little, too late as this seems to be becoming an anaerobic forum anyways. It's too bad when you go back 5 or 10 years and view the discussions, topics, and generally mutual respect of the forum users even in disagreement, which has all seemed to erode over time.

Not impossible, just nobody else's business. Those insisting on a public discussion of that particular topic all too often( not always) use it as a platform to promote discrimination.

Your living in a whole in the ground if you don't think today's govt policy, covid, or even vaccinations have a indirect impact on everything farming related that we hold dear as you say. If one does not stay up too date on these issues, farmers ranchers and producers can fall behind on key current issues that significantly impact there farming operation or bottom line.

What better avenue or platform for like minded "ag" individuals to stay informed and aware on these issues that directly effect the "ag world" than an ag forum? Bill C10 is well ahead of the curve on this one as Jazz stated already.

And when it comes to posting factually false information, how will you decide what to do with self-contradictory or "evolving" information put out by government or businesses?
