    Fungicide or Not

Hot, hot weather for the rest of the week, wheat just starting to head. Canola bolting with a thin stand. Both look fairly good at this point but by the end of this week I’m sure things will look a lot different. Is there any justification to spending dollars on fungicides with the current weather forecast?

Wheat and Canola all social distanced around here(SC Manitoba) only fungicide app is in areas who have won the thunder shower lottery

Only thing the sprayer will be coming out for now is insecticide if hoppers blow in.

It stays hot like this much longer, and some guys will be spraying with glypho to terminate and hope for next year.

101.1° here today, with 3-4 more coming just like it, then possibly a cool down to high 80s...

with your marketing plan last winter and getting top dollar for all your canola , i would blow it on
heck, you got $9.40 for wheat when the market was well under $9
with skill and luck like that i would blow it on, you will make it up on the marketing end

I’ve seldom seen a return on fungicide for canola when dry. Sorta sitting the fence when it comes to fusarium in wheat, some of the varieties are better than they used to be. Growing Starbuck, Landmark and Alita this year, have some field size plots for this year, pushed the N up to 140 for my trials to check lodging ratings.

I'm sensing sarcasm somewhere on this thread. Regardless, the agronomy questions can be fun. Good luck with the rain to complete the trials
Lodging in my mind is of course an NPK balance with correct densities and varieties. If moisture dictates extra N then a regulator.

Soaking wet every night here. It might be worth it, but it has to rain again in the next ten days to have it make sense IMO. Might do a small field I have that is barley on barley and late seeded. Better to be small right now. Not using the moisture nearly so much.

You’d have to be on crack to spend anymore money at this point. Go to the lake or go travelling and enjoy the weather. It’s in gods hands now.

                    In most areas yes.

I would still maybe fungicide the wheat for fusarium. Canola a no for sure, Oats a no for sure, but if you have suffered a catastrophic fusarium wreck it is very hard to not spray for that.

Just looked closer at that post. Anyone who relies completely on the weather year to year to make a living, is most certainly on something. Ha
