Good morning all.
NW of Maple Creek where we live , crops that were looking good 2 weeks ago are now in survival mode. Yesterday We saw 43 degrees C at our place ( 109 +/-) F, with a SW wind . No crops like that , nor do I for that matter. On the mercury thermometer , it showed 104 degrees F . Salvage mode is the talk of just about anyone I have talked to in our area, basically hoping we get some seed back and anything after that is good also.
Hay crops on dryland , in a word Dismal. Alfalfa winterkilled in most places on my stuff. I will have less than 25 % of what I need, so we have spoke for some feed already. At least Trudeau won't get any $ this year , like I give him much anyways. LOL !
I remember 1987, 88 , 89 , 90 and 2002. All of them were dry years down here. Baled a lot of crop for feed , and this year will be the same. I would not want to be anyone who has bought $350K land and new air drills and combines the last few years. We have a few of them in our area. They are more gutsy than I am, and I don't hold it against them either. Everyone has their own show to run as they please.
As far as the "experts" who say that western Canada has a good crop on the way , they must not leave the house , because I personally think there ain't no bin busters out there. At least not down here in the south half of this province anyways.
Sorry for the negative crop report everyone, but that is what is happening in our area , but if we get two inches of rain we will harvest something.
Here's Hoping !
