I wondering if there will be a reckoning on the acres of canola being seeded. Clearly the expanded acres are moving south into historically hotter and drier areas. You might be content for a 25bu crop of canola but what if its 5bu or from what I have seen not worth running the combine over in some cases.

Probably see the pulse acres come back up in those areas next yr. Doesnt matter if something is $25 a bushel if you cant grow it.

Missed the chance of rain last night as well, several weeks of 30+ coming.....our area is ****ed. Used to enjoy crop checking this time of year, will just avoid looking at the fields for the rest of the summer. if it isnt going to rain please hail.

I don’t think it matters what you grow because if it doesn’t rain it doesn’t matter. Actually canola still looks better than everything else. East central Saskatchewan has had between 2-3 inches since snow melt, thats not going to do it.

That winning lotto ticket literally just burning up
Hopefully all those calling for record farm profits and all those that have dramatically increased farm inputs can sleep at night
And to any crop reporters and industry “experts” calling fo big crops and “it’s not as bad as claimed” ... you should be fired .

The reality is there will be record crop insurance payouts , not record farm profits .

That’s what I see too. Canola hanging on the best so far. Somehow. The few pea fields I see I am not even sure if they are going to go into full fledge flower. They look like they got one flower per plant and are maybe shutting down? They look the worst.

Thing is the average person is going to be shocked when the news hits that crop insurance payout will be in the billions. They will call it a subsidy and complain about it, and the rich farmers not needing it.

What a disaster about to happen. And the 99% of the people who don’t know…

Guess all that expensive iron that went in the spring auctions isnt needed, or will be auctioned again.

Our canola marketing group better get in front of this and start talking to customers before someone else takes that market from us. Maybe start work on new hybrids that can better tolerate climate change.

Wait till they start hoarding margarine and cooking oil. Will make toilet paper wars seem like a distant memory.
