Wow puckboard. Fancy. 2002 we went thru a few rolls of duct tape wrapped front and back of pickup teeth. Only damage to tape was if crop was heavier. Didn’t wreck much tape. Lol. 5-7bu/ac wheat.

Give farmers lots of cheap glyphosate and an impressive and fast sprayer and several glyphosate resistant crops and of course you get overuse and abuse.

Lots of weeds showing up in heat stressed and water short crops along with plenty of glyphosate resistant volunteers in some fields in some areas.

Two glyphosate resistant weeds, kochia and fox tail are going to be a big pain again in many fields.

Not at all, just stating the obvious.

Lack of rain and excessive heat seem to be the sky is falling problem this year. And for many farmers it is indeed a very bad year.

Absolutely opposite in most areas of western Canada up until this year

They flex with the ground and bounce over rocks amazingly well… and feed great in all conditions! These new reels have much closer spaces between the reel fingers and more bats on the pickup reel so feed everything well. Buddy Wheels mean the cutter bar skims the ground while the header is flexing, no need for lifter fingers! Sure glad we rolled everything at Killam right after seeding as the wheat and Peas will need to be ‘clean shaven’!!!

Everyone can't go out and buy a 125000 header for a short crop?????

The first combine I bought in 1997 9500 brand new was 155200 with a pickup header...

I could still be using a combine that was equivalent to that 9500 and be pretty happy. Solid , simple , good value...

The new combines have to much "stuff" on them...

Tom farms some of the most valuable land in western Canada and is generally one of the most stable high production areas as well . Producers in that situation live in a total different financial world than the majority.

Makes it interesting on here to see such a wide view .

I would certainly agree on resistant Kochia but with foxtail barley it is more of a timing issue in my opinion. A pre seed app in the spring is quite often ineffective due to the growth cycle of the plant but in my opinion does help. Many of my neighbours skipped a pre seed app this spring and the foxtail barley has gone crazy. A pre-harvest in the fall is quite often too late and the plant has already gone to seed. Tillage certainly helps. Foxtail barley in no doubt a challenge but not a resistance issue in my opinion.

Cereals here got kicked in the junk during that late june heatwave.

Weve had bad heat early, and are VERY used to bad heat in july, but the timing of this was about the worst I've ever seen. Cereal crops that were in the process of head development in the stem got absolutely roasted. Heads have just barely emerged from the sheath if they were far enough along, and many others aren't even going to get a head out!

Those heads that didnt make it out of the boot are sterile! They aren't changing color yet, but they have not flowered either! Completely empty. There are a few fields where only 15-20% of the heads made it out, and even if they had theres a stand for maybe 15-20 if they all filled. So 20% of 20bu/ac now? All a few guys will do is hit low spots, water runs, and around rock piles with the combine.
